View Full Version : XBox 360 video outputs
Anyone know if the Xbox 360 can output signals via Composite AND SVGA at the same time?
I.e can I connect the SVGA to my TV and the composite to another device [say another TV] at the same time and recieve the images on both?

Is there a cable that has composite and svga connectors on it?
I don't think so, as the two different cables bring up two different sets of settings on the console, meaning that it detects the different cabling and adjusts the output to suit.
Having said that there may be a bodge similar to my 'HDMI and optical at same time on non elite xbox' bodge, have a google and see what comes up :)

Yes, I had one. Composite being standard def yellow lead with red and White audio leads, not to be confused with component HD
Apparently using the S-Video and Composite cable you can split it to two SD sources but you can't send it in HD to one and SD to the other or in HD to both :( Pants.
I was trying to come up with a simple way to record video or screen grab stills from Xbox 360 yet still play in HD but looks like it can't be done.

You can get a VGA splitter for £20 ish, or use component and buy a few splitters for that.
-Edit-
2 outputs, up to 1900x1440, £20

Need another VGA cable too as that doesnt come with one.
If it has hdmi, you can get both the hdmi cable in AND the grey plug that does composite.
You have to carfully remove the outer on the big grey plug and plug them both into the xbox. you should be able to get both then.
Mine is set up this way cos i have headphones plugged into the red/white.
Might work.

this works on elites as well. im running it as my optical is fudged on my tv, there is a black loop connection that you have to cut to allow both to run at the same time, can you run hdmi and companent? would that be any good?
I didn't think you needed to do that on elites as they came with the adaptor block so you could plug your HDMI in and an optical audio out at the same time.
On my bodge I did as posted above and removed the casing from a standard component out cable, which enabled me to fit the component connector block containing the optical out AND still squeeze the HDMI lead into it's socket underneath, meaning I can have the better image quality of HDMI and the proper Dolby digital through my surround sound, winner :)

I didnt know they had that... it may be on newer elites (mine is one of the earlier ones)
I think im running the same bodge as you, all cables cut from the component, case removed and wrapped in leccy tape lol, then wedged behind the hdmi bit:)
works a treat tho, only problem is, before i used to be able to leave the xbox on to download demos and stuff, change the channel and carry on, but now, when i change the channel it turns the xbox into hibernation mode or something and restarts when i turn it back to the hmdi output:confused:
Exactly the same bodge fella :)
and I have the same issue with the 360 resetting when you change channels, I think it's because the 360 detects both outputs and defaults to component mode, then when you're on the right channel I think the HDMI must carry a signal from the tv which prompts the 360 to change output and restart. Minor annoyance really :)
MS now sell the adaptor block seperately, saw it in game the other day, think it was about 20 quid for the adaptor, a HDMI and an optical lead.

feck! thats not bad really! most hdmi leads go for that!
I think that's how much it was, I do remember thinking it wasn't in line with MS' usual arse raping prices!
