Right chaps. what on earth is this error all about, sometimes when i access my hard drives via a link or via my computer it gives this error message

Its only sometimes. and the error message can be closed and then it will pop up 30 or so times then it will finally **** off. only to rear its ugly head a week later or so.

No idea but you need a faster computer as a 2500+ is a dinosaur :D

Does this error only appear in one application?
Are your drivers up to date?
Have you scanned with malwarebytes and a decent virus checker?

I know but it refuses to die and i only use it for web browsing and watching videos and suchlike. I built this pc in 2003 !

Yeah running kaspersky, malwarebytes, spybot search and destroy.

Is it only when you launch a DivX video per chance? That error doesn't look like a standard windows error box

The fact that it is reporting the OS as "XP Professional" means that it's either a very old app (that isn't aware of Vista) or it's something running in 'compatibility mode' which would also probably explain why it's crashing.

Without turning stuff off (via msconfig) and waiting to see if the problem goes away, I'm not sure what's easy to suggest :(

What chipset / mb is this?
There was a problem with some old KT400 based chipsets, ide issues or something but its that long ago its kind of been pushed out my memory to make way for modern crap :wack:
If its a via chipset, then download the via 4 in one driver pack for it and see if that helps.

Hmm ..... A Nvidia chipset and IDE corruption/crashing machine... lol
Takes me back to the dark old days...

There was problems with nvidia chipsets as well a few years back, they made some right shite that eventually helped force them out of the chipset business this year.

You could try an updated driver, something like http://www.mediafire.com/?zznmnzmjzdg

maybe...

Or buy a new pc :wack:

I'm with Sideways on the chipset drivers. Get them updated and the problem will probably be sorted

does the error occur whilst accessing the same video files through say windows media player?
