OK, im bored of riding on ice like levels of grip in mud,

Im after mud tyres... what are the suggestions,

I have high rollers/ comp 16s for general use so i want a mud specific tyre.

Im looking at the Maxxis wet scream, whats the best width 2.2 or 2.5, im guessing 2.2 as it will dig in better, although a lot of our courses are heavy on the rock and root side aswell, so maybe a 2.5 would be better???

Also the micheling MUD thyres are awesome, i just cant find places with them in stock?

Any other good alternatives?

Cheers:thumbs:

Wetscreams

Mud 3's are pretty good, but i would go for 2.2 Screams

Michelin are bringing out there new tyres int he new year but im guessing you cant wait that long haha

I know when I was racing back in '93 I used 1.5 wide, to really cut through deep mud and find something to grip on. Also give more clearnce from clogging up round the brakes / frame. Sure thats outdated now :wack:

yea, clearance isnt really a problem, my high rollers are 2.5 and theres LOADS of room in there:) just need something to get to the grippy stuff under the slop! Im deffinately thinking wet screams now, and the 2.2's are in stock on crc:thumbs:

Cheers for the advice...

Also... new michelin's mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Loved the 16's, only reason for switching to maxxis was i could get them a lot cheaper, always loved the way 16's rode, a much better compound than the maxxis (super tacky) i used to run them a fair bit harder as they just gripped no matter what!

I'm quite partial to Nokian Gazzalodi's, i have a 2.6 on the front and only really notice the extra "drag" when i'm dirt jumping over the summer, thru the winter its grip city

Do they still make Gazzalodi's??

I had one back in the day but then got introduced to the comp 32 from Michelin, awesome, awesome tyre, only problem is that they tend to 'plane' over the mud rather than get through it and get to the grippy stuff underneath:)

The upmost worst tyre ever has to be the standard Tioga, man, they were so bad, you never knew when they would decide to let go. It became a term to be 'tiogered' ass you suddenly ate the dirt lol:nod:

I hope you're not berating the factory DH? That was my winter tyre of choice, and everyone else's about 8 years ago! :D
Gazzallodi: Yuckl. A mate had one - weighed the same as the moon, floated on mud, and dragged in teh dry. Yuck.

God the Tioga's were awful!

Maxxis Swampthings were quite good IIRC but I never really used mud tyres. I just fell off more :D

EDIT -agree about the gazza's though. Not a nice tyre

berating is such a soft word:wack: if there was an ethnic cleansing of tioga factory DH's i would be up there:D The white tigers on the other hand were a fantastic tyre!

I just bought some Bontrager Mud-X, which were very well reviewed. Not had the chance to try them yet, though :wack:

I got 2" diameter ones, as I subscribe to the idea Kev mentioned that you should have a relatively slim tyre in mud, to allow them to cut down through the mud a little. The larger the tyre, the greater the number of nobbles on the tread, and the lower the pressure each nobble has applied to it. :)
