I see you offer Nistune fitting, but don't mention this car. The Nistune site says that the A31s are supported and the ECU is almost identical to an S13 one. Engine is an RB20DET. I believe I need a Nistune Type 1 board for this.

Only problem is, the Nistune ROM pack doesn't include my specific ECU as being Australian they can't have the facelift Cefiros (L in the chassis code) due to their import laws. They do state that if you send them a dump of the ROM they can sort it out and add it to the ROM pack.

The ECU model is MEC-R350. I think the Nissan part number is 2371M-5L270

Would you be able to remove the existing ROM from the ECU and send the dump off to Nistune to sort out in addition to the standard fitting. Once it's fitted I think I can handle swapping between a socketed ROM and the Nistune board, but I'm not so keen on the desoldering part or getting the ROM out without destroying it, especially since this ECU is hard to come by.

I wouldn't be that happy doing it to be honest - if it goes wrong what would you expect me to do? It's not a risk I really want to take for our usual £34.99 fitting fee. I'm happy to have a go so long as you sort out and problem if they arise.

Are you refering to the risk of the board not working because Nistune haven't seen that ROM before, or the risk of damaging the ECU?

The latter is my main concern, getting the ROM out in one piece and putting a socket in it's place without damaging the ECU. If the Nistune people can't get their board working with my ROM then that's my bad luck. I guess I'd have to ask them for a refund and have no problem doing all that myself.

If OTOH, you were to break my ECU, obviously I'd hope that you'd repair or replace it :)

The part I'd be worried about would be the original chip...

I take it there's no way to dump that chip before it's removed?

Really all I need is that chip dumping and a socket fitting. The rest of the work I'm happy to do myself

It'd have to be removed I'm afraid.

So long as the chip remains readable in some way, it should be fine, even if you have to solder the remains of the pins onto a chip socket before it can be read. Worst case scenario in this case is needing to dump the image off and then program a fresh EPROM?
