Expect to pay upwards of 4k for an immaculate late car with low mileage

Im looking at one on pistonheads now its a 14 NOT a 14a but i can either change the front end in future or keep it as it is i just saw a REALLY nice 14 on there was too expensive but as i liked it i think with a little TLC i can make the 14 look amazing :D probably sold tho

Can you afford to stretch the budget a little and buy a car with modifications on ?

You could then strip it back to stock and get your money back

26-11-2009, 17:39
If i was looking for a s14/14a i would be keeping my eyes peeled on dw and here and when a car comes up with modifications on fairly cheap i'd buy.

There was a s14a that sold a while back for £1000 with apex coilovers on it exahust etc. If you sold the uprated parts you would have had the car for free!!

AlexRobinson
26-11-2009, 17:50
Bet the mileage was high lol and i Got told not to do that but Because it would ruin the car I would be happy to buy a car with some mods but I thought som mods are hard to strip and I can't do it myself so I'm screwed lol and can you link me the exact link for ads on dw please mate I can't work the site at all to see the for sale bits cheers for the comments guys it's helpin and what would I be needin to stretch my budget to

yetiboy
26-11-2009, 18:01
I think a little over 4k could get you a lovely red s14a with stage 2 mods :Plug:
Seriously though if you want low miles and a nice car then your going to have to come to 4k for a budget.

AlexRobinson
26-11-2009, 18:19
That's way too high I've seen many go for 3k don't mind stretching a smidgen more but nowhere near that unless I'll get some dollar back for mods

VIDAL BABBOON
26-11-2009, 18:24
Check autotrader mate

It's usually a fair indication of price i find too.

There is a very very clean looking black one on there with 69k on the clocks

AlexRobinson
26-11-2009, 18:37
Only 1 I can seemate is the one for 4995 it is in nice condition but way over my budget is that the one you saw also auto trader is good but they mostly seem auto and I can't be bothered with the hassle of a swap box

Seriously there just numbers on the mileometer! As long as its been looked after they will go on forever.Exactly:nod: And the more mileage they cover the better imho

Guy
27-11-2009, 21:46
Also something else to think about, would you rather have a lower mileage car that may well have only ever seen short journeys here and there, or something with more miles on which someone has looked after, its been warmed up and down on every journey etc?

A fair few of the lower mileage standard cars were owned by more elderly people who may have just gone into town got a few bits and come back, never giving the car a chance to warm up, or ever be on a nice long run.

AlexRobinson

VIDAL BABBOON
27-11-2009, 23:18
IF you are only looking at getting one to leave stock then you don't want one that has covered low low miles

If you are looking to get one to modify at your leisure then don't worry about the miles it has covered  if the worst should happen then it's a good excuse to rebuild

My car had low mileage and the HG still went  granted that was partly my doing but if it's covered over 100k then you know it's been looked after and will do another 100k give the chance

nitrodave
27-11-2009, 23:25
my s14a feels just as good now with 140k on the clock as it did when i got it with 90k, don't fear high mileage on these cars... as said they go on forever if looked after.

Chriscooke
27-11-2009, 23:29
I had similar issues about mileage when I was looking for mine and missed many a good car because of it:nod:

I have now realised that mileage really isn't the issue. My car is having the same issues at 80k as someone else's on here is having at more than double that mileage:nod:

Go for one that has a good solid shell with little to no rust. Bushes, turbos etc can be replaced a lot lot easier than the metalwork.

Xmas is the wrong time to sell anything. You're mileage concerns are seriously unfounded. You need to look at condition and history over and above mileage these days. If you want a low mileage one they are now going for Big Bucks owing to their more collector orientated sales pitch. Just look at whats in your price range and buy the best thats out there.

I had my first s14 at around 17/18 and it cost me an absolute mint, insurance-juice-rear tyres etc etc etc. Plus they do go wrong and I was constantly stressed about maintaining it on the breadline!
I had it for about 3 years and loved it so much so I have another one now as a midlife crisis type thing:D

No offence mate but your not really listening to what everythong is telliing you

Mileage means nothing:no: (see below)

What would you rather have :

Car 1 has done 20,000 and has only had one service and gets ragged all the time
Car 2 had done 100,000 but has always been looked after, serviced and most wear and tear items have been replaced.

I know what one id have and it would prob be cheaper too

Also EVERY car has common faults and every car will go wrong - its the looking after that will determine how much it happens and how much it costs not the mileage !

:'( Parents wouldnt be happy with it anyway there mostly the reason why i need a low one : /

Tell them to have a read of this thread and they may well change their mind.

When i bought my first one things were different to what they are now and i wanted a low miler, i found one with 24k on the clock 99 model that was a good while ago now though and it cost me 8k iirc.

You wont find one with 24k on the clock now and if you do it's still going to respect around 8k

The higher mileage cars are not past it by any means and in the grand scheme of things it means nothing

The lower the miles the newer the car will be (with some exceptions) so you simply wont get what you want for the money you want to spend.

Hence the time you have been looking and the lack of 200sx in your life at present.

Owen
28-11-2009, 20:34
If you dont have the spare cash for the unexpected repairs then it will be difficult.

So do your research get some help from this invaluable resource and very knowledgeable people.

If you have a 200 you will need to get your hands dirty and probably take your knuckes off.

Look after them, service and maintain them religously and enjoy them.

If you can find a good car on here that someone has obviously looked after it will be in much better shape than the auction punted shite that crops up on autotrader etc. Its history is very important unless you are a big end specialist:p

As far as bang for buck you will find it difficult to beat a 200sx, I have had plenty of cars and I am back.

VVT is a sprocket on the cams, rattles from cols when engaging a gear. Import SR's did away with it.

Search 14 tech section for VVT rattle theres a zillion threads on it, One of the most commen faults, I say fault plenty of people have driven with it for most of the cars life with only the shame of a rattle as you pull off :wack:. and some have reported the fault at 30k:nod:

Expensive part to replace though IIRC about 280 for the part(Some one may be along to confirm that)

I converted one a few months ago, I cant give you any real idea on prices as I had a doner car and I paid a pretty penny for an ACT clutch combo.

I would say £500 is a resonable figure including new standard or low end clutch.

Use the search function and look for Ken's write up on the main components required but from memory

Clutch & Cover bolts
Clutch Release Bearing
Clutch Pivot Bearning
Clutch Master Cylinder
Clutch Slave Cylinder
Clutch Lines & Fluid
Flywheel & Bolts
Clutch Pedal only or brake too
Manual interior gearstick surround
Manual shift boot and plate
Gearbox and cross member (Oil)
Front half of manual Propshaft

Some wiring trickery;)

i was in the same boat as you. took me 9 months to find a sx and i have finally found one, its done 110k but yet again im not worried bout that anymore, as the car comes with full service history and has been looked after. so i am happy, you can find loads of decent sx online as long you look around and dont mind about going over the 80k milage mark. just keep looking chap

oh and before buying the car look around for more quotes mate. but your budget is fine 3k is enough for a decent s14a.

Mate buying a 200sx is like finding THE girl for you. If you rush it you will get a minger and regret every day of your life.

Wait save some more and get a good one and you will be showing it off to the boys in no time:D

Classic quote there mate:thumbs: ground breaking:D

Dole fcukers at home all day ideal, what I cant understand is why their kids dont have the ultimate headstart... If I was home all day with my girls I would give them my time and they would go straight into secondary school at 4:D

They really ought to be the most loved, cared for and prepared little things...

REALITY MIND YOU:down:

Kids are not too much money, you just cut your cloth accordingly or work harder. Both of which I have done.
Dont wait for the right time.

My little rant over sorry Alex.

PS you wouldnt know mine had been converted... Unless you had a look underneath at my wiring. Yellow electrical tape for the WIN:D
