Im not sur eif this is a well covered issue but i couldnt find much info so i thoguht id put up a little thread and ask, i am looking to put my s13 to stage 3 power levels and was wandering if i was better going for a custom map or just a stage 3 ecu, my issue is that i will have a few modifictations that are above the recomendations list ad i dont know how this will affect things
I have the following parts fitted/too fit

Ported and flowed head,
lightened flywheel
tubular manifold,
turbo elbow
apexi exhaust
free flow air filter
gt28rs turbo
444cc injectors
z32 afm
boost controller(only manual one)
stage 3 clutch
FMIC DB power one
fuel pump

My only question really was if having the ported and flowed head, lightened fly and maniold would affect the way the standard stage 3 map would work and if it would be worth getting the standard ecu remapped rather than running the stage 3 chip.
Any help would be much appreciated

A custom map will give better results - although I think a stage 3 ECU upgrade will work quite well - the flywheel and head won't make much difference to the map. Any increase in air flow will be accounted for by the AFM. The GT28RS turbo should work fine. You could go for a stage 3 ECU upgrade and then if you find its not suitable get a custom map. Doesn't work out much more cash.

Ah ok thanks for that jez, i wasnt sure if they would compensate you see as its all post AFM i guess i should try the stage 3 ecu first then, thank you so much for your reply im not the most knowledgabe on EFI systems so im sorry if the question was a little bit simple. Oh and when you say better do you mean higher power of better controll of the power curve? As i want to have a reasonable amout of reliaility in my set up.

Also if i go for a custom map what advantage does going on the RR have to the set up process and what is the extra cost?

It means you'll have a car with good fuelling throughout - you may not get more power but it should be as smooth as possible.

Rolling road time is usually around £80-100. It'll allows us to measure the power through out the rev range and iron out any peaks and troughs.

Ah ok thats brilliant, thanks very much for the help and ill let you know what im planning to do in the near future as i think upping the power for the winter would be a bit of a silly idea.
