View Full Version : Poxy bloody PC
Have had to reformat the HDD and reinstal Windows.
Using the Mesh recovery disc, my monitor is set to "default", my keyboard is buggered (" is where @ is) and there is no sound as XP can't find the bloody soundcard....
FFS You'd think that the drivers would be there... what is even more wierd is that XP didn't hunt the printer etc as it did on all other PCs I've seen running it...
Sodding MESH
Hmm, when you say you reinstalled windows, was it an automated install or did it prompt you for a few settings as it installed?
I left my dad to follow the instructions. would have been that automatic install

start>control panel then go to regional and language options. You've got the american keyboard set.
select the languages tab to bring up the page, press the details button, add the UK kewboard and delete the american one.
For the sound card, right click my computer and select manage. Select device manager, and click the refresh button. If it then doesn't detect your soundcard, then I need more information to conrtinue.
DISCLAIMER - I just did that all form memory, so the details may be wrong, but the "jist" is right"
Don't worry mate,
Keyboard is setup for English(US) rather than English(UK). If you can still see the language bar, just right-click on it and choose settings then set English(UK) as default and remove English(US) from the list :)
If you can't see the language bar still, click Start --> Control Panel --> Regional and Language Options, click the "Languages" tab and click the "Details" button. Then do the above :)
Regarding the sound, hold down the Windows (Flag) key and press the "Pause / Break" key. Then click the Hardware tab and click the "Device Manager" button. See if theres any unknown devices and remove them. Then right-click on the computer at the top of the list and choose "Scan for hardware changes". Hopefully this should do the trick for the soundcard.

I give up.
Have sorted the keyboard (ty - was too dopey last night to click - guessing have to restart efore the changes come into effect tho...)
However, have done what you suggested Dave - and it can't find any software for the card. Great.
However, no problem, XP will search on the net - hurrah.
Or not. Go to M/soft compatability centre and what is the message:
"The page you have requested does not exist". (in M/softs on window, so it isn't a prob with the connection)
I give up
Hmm, sounds like you need the drivers for the soundcard. I could prolly find them for you if I had a little info about it.
What make is your computer
Any idea of the make of the soundcard?? or is it an onboard one?
Dave
It could be one of 2 problems, either
there's a nut loose on the keyboard
or
there is a problem between the keyboard and chair
:D
Only kidding. There is only one way to sort it out. Unplug all the cables, take it outside, and kick ten bales of shit out of it
It won't fix it, but you will feel sooooo much better. :)
