i was getting all ready to make the 200 mile trip to pick up my mums MR2 and i get a call this morning the bloody gear selector has broken :( !

phoned me up as i was about to leave to saw he tryed to move it to go get some petrol and it would not always go into gear
sometimes it did sometimes it did not... so its not a linkage problem

he said that it came out of the blue and would not sell it to me with this problem so i have to wait about 2 weeks intill i can pick it up

he said it would cost him about £200 pound to put right.
its going into Toyota on monday (if it can get booked in) :(

ah well......a bit pissed off that this had to happen but life go's on

do they often break ?

i mean what does the Gear selector consist of ? :)

ah well life go's on and i will get to it soon and give it a good go over before i give him any money

Just had phone-call from Toyota who say that the gear-box selector requires
replacement and as such will cost me £275 plus about £300 labour

well it will cost him

but now he said he can go though with the sell because it will cost to much....i have seen the car and other than his problem its bloody excellent

i was thinking should i go half halfs on the gear box repair because the price would only go upto 2,900 for a mr2 with 50k :)

So the gear selector has broke with only 50k on the clock, looks like someone is a bit of a heavey handed gear changer  or is this a weekness on them

My friends mr2 mk2 had this go wrong and he was stuck in 2nd gear heh - least he could get it home like that! That was at about 70k miles though, I think he said its a common thing to go wrong on them.

His is getting on for 100k now and is still going well, excluding a holed radiator which cost a lot to fix (some other stuff in the coolant system needed replacing too)!

/ doh his was a manual though! just re-read the post above
