View Full Version : BBQing - I don't get it
Am I the only person (except Hayley) who really doesn't like BBQs. If your camping (i.e. Billing etc.) or at the beach, then fair enough, but when you have a perfectly good cooker indoors, why burn meat in the garden  , risk food poisoning and stink out everybodies house in a mile radius  .
/now ducks and runs for cover :D

no I'm with you on this, I hate them.
i like the occasion of them usually, from my recollection it involves getting shitfaced with my mates then playing football and breaking all the plants.
But the food always sucks.
In the olden days, people ate indoors and shat at the bottom of the yard.
That's progress for you.
I guess its OK as a good excuse to pile round to someones house and get ****ered. Only if its someone else doing the cooking though. Get food cooked properly indoors by the missus when we entertain.
/e is truly an awful cook, altough I'm good at washing up ;)

When I do BBQ the food always tastes of lighter fuel :p
But I like 'em. Have loads of people round (or even better go to someone elses house!!), eat loads of dodgy food, get bladdered.... Can't beat it
The problem I have is that on modern housing estates, everyones garden is on top of each other. So for me (being asthmatic) I get a tight chest with the smell. It's hot and we have to go around and shut all the bloody windows or the house stinks. Smoke is filling our garden so we have to go out the front for a ciggie.
Roll on winter.

I suspect she knows.
Well meaning but not the right place for lifestyle advice.
If it was, I'd get crucified every day on here.
Yeah I know that I shouldn't, and trust me, I keep trying to give up.
My asthma is usually brought on by infections. I'm also affected by strong smells, eg, bleach, glue and stress. When I'm stressed I have a ciggie and it calms me down, hence my chest usually relaxes as well.
I will give up soon though. :)
mmmmmmmmm BBQ i love em, especially bbq`d ribs with my special sauce slow cooked for about 1.5hours:thumbs:
I love the smell too, although i ususally find the smell better thean the food:rolleyes: unless i`m cooking that is:finger: ;) :D

I'm a BBQ lover, dont get much chance to so enjoy it when I can :)
Perhaps its something to do with the fact that I like my food well done, and this is how it always ends up when i cook on the BBQ (black outside, just done inside heh) :D

i also hate to lecture but my mum used to be like you and she quit when she had a heart attack at 34.... she then had to have a by pass and two angioplasty's.... she now has to take tablets for the rest of her life....... she's 40 and this year she had to have false teeth as the heart medication caused her teeth to get loose and she had to have them removed........
just something for you to think about and might help you quit..... thing is, only you can decided to do it and no one else can make you decided,
but just think, if she had quit all those times she said...... "tomorrow i will" then maybe she would never of had the heart attack...
please don't take this as a lecture
I know the risks and it's not like I couldn't do with the money elsewhere. I use to volunteer at a cancer hospice, so I have watched people dying of cancer. It's awful. You would think I'd know better.
It's an addiction and when you're at a place in your life you don't want to be, it's easier to give in and have the comfort that ciggies give. :(
I must be pissed. Read the first 3 posts on the thread and thought WTF. Then realised you were'nt talking about B&Q :o :o :o :o

i used to smoke 60 a day and gave up 7 years ago, i still get the urge for a smoke even now, but there is no way i could afford to run my 200 and smoke, hardest part of giving up smoking was not partaking in the sharing of a joint (didnt want to get hooked on the fags again)

smoking is a bitch to give up even though you feel a lot better without them but as suggested earlier this is not the forum for lifestyle advice...
BBQ's on the other hand KICK BUTT and are an essential part of australian life. What could be better than beer and meat (well, turbo's, sure... but you know what I mean) and since it's outside it doesn't matter how much mess you make and there are minimal dishes (which is handy, cos you generally feel a bit ordinary the next day)
BBQ's, YAY :D:D:D

BBQ's are great when you get someone who can cook!
And at the SXOC we are blessed with the BBQ skill of Ben Taylor, he cooks a mean cheeseburger! :notworthy

I've just lit my BBQ - bring on the rain and subsequent food poisoning! RAR!!! :D
You can't beat a good barbecue!
Had one round my house last night actually, and the food was very nice because I cooked it ;)

BBQ's are great! The food tastes better, and you get to get pissed while cooking, and the real beaut is thet the more beers you have, the better you are at it!:D
