My dad is looking at getting an old 1992 BMW 525i SE.
Has anyone driven one of these?
How good are they performance wise?

Is it the 325 or 525 you want to know about?

I've got an E30 325i touring which is great. Not as quick as the 200 but nothing is. ;) :D
Andy had an E36 325i which was quicker.
Both were/are great to drive. Easy and comfortable. Try Parkers for performance figures.

Can't help with 5 series though. :)

170bhp for the M20 engine (E30) 192bhp for the M50/M52 engine (E36/E34)

From parkers:

Based upon those figures id get the v8 :D , it get better mpg (yeah right!). If he isnt interested in speed the Turbo Diesels sound a good idea too as they show reasonable economy. Still a big heavy car so gonna be juicy!

Basically he has an old 520i se which as he's 5'3'' he want's something a bit smaller and quicker.
So he's looking for a 325i not the M series.

A friend used to have an E30 325i Sport, they came with an LSD, close ratio gearbox, an M-tech bodykit and a few other goodies. All 2 door saloons :)

0-60 in 7.1 and 171bhp as standard not to mention bags of torque. Pretty cool really, especially in black :D
