how much I hate XP and Microsoft?

As you may know, I've been trying to export my Outlook stuff ont o disc.
Look for the /pst you guys said, so I did. I searched for it, using Windows search and manually. Did I find it? did i buggery?

Came across it by chance tonight, when playing with outlook. Oh, outlook thinks it is a pst but XP thinks it is "Office Data File".

buggery bollocks to that...

at least I've found it

we put xp on ours and initially it was great and looked great, then after a week or so the pc threw a wobler and we had to reformat it and then we put 2000 on and haven't had any problems since. but we did upgrade from a p3 to the equivilant of a p4....:)

Nothing wrong with XP if it's setup correctly :p

I've been using it as my main OS since it was in BETA and had no problems at all :)

Absolutely hated XP at first. So much so that I had it taken off all our machines and 98SE put on instead.

Then my latest laptop came with it and after a couple of weeks of getting used to it and getting it set up properly I think it's really very good (for a Microsoft product ;) )

As Dave said the key is setting it up right and in setting up all your other software to cope with it's little ways.

We're gradually putting XP back on our oter machines now (well those we still have that havn't been nicked or vandalised that is).

i've been using it since it first came out...

it is clever, yes. it can hunt any network out within seconds. but it just has so many bugs taht i can't iron out :( no matter what i do

i'm hoping Pro will be better

Ah well there's your answer then. Anything other than pro is cut down cheapo stuff intended for folk who do a bit of surfing, gaming and word processing.

XP's been magic for me but my old boy had nightmare's with it! Guess it just like's some setups and not others. I installed it onto a brand new computer, don't know if that made any difference?

Dunc.

Am using XP Pro at work, and no probs so far...quite stable but it uses a shed load of memory...it consumes memory like no tomorrow, so if your system is low (less than 512Mb) it can run into some problems.

I was INSPIRED by yours mate :D Just looks clean :) Hope no offense taken???

If you're using XP Home then theres the problem :D No, seriously, theres not THAT much difference between Pro and Home, just a few services and other bits and pieces. I wouldn't suggest XP Home to anyone who is serious about using their PC though :)

Don't think so. The PC I'm on at tehis second was brnad new... we're wiping hte hard drive this week :( and it is less than a year old :(

We've had so many probs with it hanging and crashing, refusing to open other Microsoft progs - IE, OE and Word are particular favourites.

IT is just really annoying and often quite unstable until you've run up your phone bill downloading patches. In my experience anyway :(

When I picked up a PC the other week, I decided to stick XP on it. It's a Celeron 366 @ 550 mhz, 192mb ram, small hard disk. It runs XP beautifully. There are only two problems I have with the PC and neither are related to XP but to specific hardware it's using. If you have XP Pro and anywhere near half-decent hardware in the PC, I can't see why people can have so many problems with it. I'd have to put it down to Operator Error. (note: this doesn't apply to you Starionman, as you seem to have a problem with Office software, and not XP itself)

Will be interesting to see how PRo behaves on my new PC when built with 1024mb RAM and a 2.4g processor...

Badly

Only Kidding

I've found XP Pro to be the most stable of all the Microsoft OS I've used (bar Dos 4.1, but that just ain't pratical anymore). Most of my problems were caused by using dual processors, I had a nightmare with 2000 pro. Now I've gone back to a single processor problems are a lot less. It's still not perfect though
