View Full Version : Ambulance driver delivering organ for transplant prosecuted for speeding........
Plod have excelled themselves this time..........

'Speeding' ambulance driver charged
Mike Ferguson was taking an organ for transplant
A senior ambulance driver has been charged with speeding after being clocked at 104mph.
West Yorkshire driver Mike Ferguson was rushing a liver from Leeds to Cambridge for an emergency transplant when he was caught.
Both Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire Police recorded the ambulance speeding on the A1 in the early hours of the morning of 16 January.
Mr Ferguson, who has an unblemished record of 36 years service, was in an official vehicle with blue lights flashing. Traffic was light and road conditions were understood to be good.
'Dangerous precedent'
But while Cambridgeshire officers have not taken any action, their counterparts in Lincolnshire charged Mr Ferguson.
Mr Ferguson told BBC News Online: " I was just doing my job, but the police have a differing point of view."
And added: "I was asked to move an organ as soon as possible.
"I didn't know the condition of the organ, or the recipient."
Mr Ferguson's union the GMB has taken up his case, saying in a statement that he was acting routinely to deliver the organ in time.
Union spokesman John Durkin said the case could set a dangerous precedent.
He said: "If certain police forces say that drivers risk prosecution, then do they have the right to say who will survive these life-saving operations?
"I don't want that on my conscience."
Mr Ferguson's case at Grantham magistrates' court has been deferred at the request of the defence solicitor.

 Next time you get done for speeding make some sort of counter claim that the copper who stopped you must have been speeding in order to keep up
It's a fookin joke init
bet they wouldn't have stopped a copper if he was speeding with his lights on  :tosser: :tosser:
cheers,
Andy
I can't believe the Police would even consider charging the guy, are they going to start doing the same to fire engines, whoever decided to prosecute might change his mind if a member of his own family needed a urgent transplant

That's absolutely crazy. Are they out of their minds? That simply doesn't make any sense or obey any logic. If he had his blue lights on and was on legitimate official business, then how can the police possibly have a problem?
Surely there's more to this than first meets the eye?
So what happens when Plod decide to hoof it up the outside lane for half a mile at 130, then?
Like they do all the time...........
Does this mean all Police persuit training is banned?
This just proves what a load of bolony this speed business is; they're going to kill 'x' number of people a year just in delaying organ deliveries!

That is really quite scary, there must be more to the story than is being reported, it surely won't hold up in court though.
Draconian state anyone.
Soon they will be charging each other...
FFS They are a bunch of:tosser: 's
I did have respect for them... but since a few things that have happened between me and the plod..... the respect I had for them has gone.....
Its a shame... but unless they change there ways ASAP... they will never gain respect from the public....

Its the person at the CPS that should be sacked. The problem is the anal ppl that do theire job exactily to the book and just cant think for themselves that do this kind of thing.

I'm gonna try that, Jeff, if crap like this stands up in court it might just work :)
This will get thrown out of court.
The majority of traffic police, it would seem, are hell bent on alienating themselves from the general public. Prosecutions like this can only make us feel utter contempt for them and believe that they are a bunch of :tosser: :tosser:
I remember my dad getting done by the police (the only time he ever has), for going through a red light a few years ago. He deliberately went through the lite on red because it was the only way he could let the police car behind (which had flashing light on) past. Said police car took down his number and reported him and another set of :tosser:s came round later that day to tell him he was being proesecuted.
I'm sorry but I never get out of the way of blue flashing plod mobiles now unless it is convenient and legal for me to do so. I always get out of the way of ambulances and fire engines.
Lets face it, it's the fire engines and ambulances that actually do some good and we need to get to where they are going as fast as possible, not plod who invariably only make things worse or are just there to mop things up.
HM Police, you should be holding your heads in shame today :(

He needs to plead not guilty and elect for trial in the crown court. No jury will ever convict him surely.
I wonder at what point the police will realise that they no longer have public support? I know it is not the police who give out custodial sentances, but with moves being made to give the police power to dish out fines for unsociall behavoiur (whatever that means) are they not acting as judge, jury and executioner (ala Judge Dread)?.

I wonder if i'll get done by the police tonight when I go to work later. Most of the police (especially in panda cars) couldnt drive to save their lives! I've been to a few car crashes involving police cars (only panda cars!). When I finished my Paramedic training I had to complete the 3 week police class 1 driving course. The police are a bunch of :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser:

I might get a bit of a flaming here.... but it might not be the fault of the police
Questions to ask aer...
Was the Ambulance Driver stopped?
If not, they would have forwarded the information to the CPS.
If that is the case, Lincolnshire police were doing their job. Cambridgeshire weren't.
However in light of the reasons that would have been put forward to the CPS. It is the CPS and these people alone who should be publicly named and shamed. Once the case has been forwarded to the CPS, it is the CPS who decide if it should go any further. In events like these, thepolice aren't paid to think, but the CPS is.
Let them name te people involved, then if they ever need an organ transplant, tell them to fcuk off.

Well that much has been abundantly clear for years  :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser:
Common sense has just gone completely out of the window - as has their credibility and, subsequently, the Publics' will to co-operate.
Whilst the following is not true of everything Plod do the perception is that all they are interested in is this: £
And, at the end of the day, perception is all that counts.
Welcome to spiralling crime for the next 20 years, everyone.

Which is PRECISELY why the government are trying to ban trial by jury for certain offences... SPEEDING for one

Surprise to see you on this thread Tim...!!!;)
But I have to agree a right bunch of :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser: :tosser:
"As the law stands a vehicle does not qualify as an ambulance if it is carrying transplant organs."
Doesn't blue lights, a siren, a stretcher, lots of medical equipment and a bl**dy PARAMEDIC count then ffs?
My car isn't an ambulance, transplant organs or not... but a licensed AMBULANCE is a fcuking AMBULANCE... whatever the fcuk it's carrying!
What about a fire engine responding to a fake 999 call??? Could they be fined for speeding if the call turns out not to be an emergency?
That's the LAST time I ever move out of the way for a copper with his siren on.... he might not QUALIFY as a police car, therefore I shouldn't have to let him speed past.... should I???
LOL :D :D :D :D
A comment on the fantastic CPS:
This happened to ME: Hit at 60mph (Plod's estimated IMPACT speed) whilst sat at traffic lights. Car destroyed (first 2***** ), total of 6 months off work, spine had to be fused in the end.
Insurance co. admitted liability.
Result: £50.00 fine and 6 points for careless driving.

Sums it up pretty much!
pauly not only did they get let of they now probably have a better house than us and the state gives em loads of fcuking money that we gave the fcuking state so if you drive a vehicle with an organ for transplant act like you cant speak english and ask for political asylum you will probably be let of and offered a nice big fcuking house:finger: :finger: :finger: mr police man

I never move out of the way, because I'm normally travelling faster. And if they're on a call, they can't stop me. :D

Can't believe some of the short sighted remarks on this thread. Surely you should look for all the facts before jumping to conclusions.
Come on people, try to look at the wider picture.

What, like plod do you mean.
B0llocks.
Correct me if i am wrong, but i was under the impression that it was the Lincolnshire constabulary that decided to proceed with the charge, where as Cambridgeshire (i think) dropped teh charges.

The Chief Constable of whatever force brings the charges on behalf of Regina (The Crown.) CPS are the ones who decide whether or not to prosecute, not the police. Unless that is the case is far more serious such as death by dangerous or manslaughter etc where they'd be much consultation.
In a matter such as this the camera takes the shot, the civilian processes the summons, it gets sent to CPS, CPS make the decision.
In answer to your question JB, yes, just like Plod.

Rob
Woo, he sure told you, eh JB? :)

This thread seems familiar to one a few years ago, which resulted in me not bothering with this board, due to the obvious ill founded open hostility many members feel towards the Police. Having recently re joined i venture to put my neck out and suggest that "relaxitscool" has it about right, and that any speeding offence caught by automatic camera will go to a
CIVILAIN OFFICE ATTACHED TO THE CPS (is that big enough ??) who will reffer the matter to the CPS who will make the decision to prosecute and so suprisingly, a police officer will not have had any input into the matter what so ever:eek: However i am sure most people will not believe this a will prefer to blame "plod" or will undoubtedly furnish us all with other thrilling episodes of "plods" stupidness, arrogance etc.... For those people who stated that they would not get out of the way of a police vehicle which is on an emergency call, well i would suggest that you could be on thin ice. The consequences could be thus : 1. best case scenario you really piss off the police driver behind and delay him somewhat.
2. as above but because of the delay somebody dies, or a serious crime take place/ offenders get away.
3. you piss him off enough to clock your number and stick you on later when they have the chance.
4. or even better still you yourself cause an accident/incident as the police vehicle tries to overtake you, which results in loss of life etc, but that will be ok because the Police driver will get the blame wont he !! for making such A stupid overtake and being such a ****ER
True there are some arseholes out there who wear a police uniform and yes many of them are traffic police who have an amazing ability to get up peoples noises. but do not tarnish everyone with the same brush. i could say that everyone who drives a modified japanese sports car is nothing but a jumped up, snot nosed, gobby nike base ball capped wearing boy racer, who is a complete **** wit and gets his kicks every saturday night driving around the ring road REAL FAST like, pulling doughnuts in public carparks and generally pissing off most of the general public in large...
but i dont, despite the fact that some are like that !!
anyway i look forward to the avalanche of one sided abuse like last time:eek:

Not going to happen fortunately.
You've cleared the situation up, made the facts clear, and made good points.
So, as there can be nothing else useful posted, I'm locking this thread.
