if i want to make a lan with my 2 pc's can i just buy 2 of these, http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3NwZWNpZmljYXRp b25z&product_uid=48427 fit them and off it goes just like that? using windows xp on both pc's
i'm unsure whether wireless lan cards allow a connection similar to CAt5 crossover without using a WAP (in the analogy a switch)
i *THINK* they need a wireless access point to communicate

You can use two wireles cards buy them selves in 'ad-hoc' mode without an access port, just makesure the cards arnt set to infrastructure mode when they are installed.. :)
although, to be honest, I wouldnt waste my time with the 22mbits stuff... its too slow, spend a little more and get the 56mbit kit, its about £20 more, but getting closer to a useable speed... the Buffalo cards are probably the cheapest, and pretty good quaility...
how far away are the two PCs?? the range of all wireless stuff is pretty limited... usually as a rule of thumb for i wouldnt have the computers more than 2, maybe 3 rooms apart to achive full speed.

I think you can do it, it's called an ad-hoc network AFAIK.
If not you need an access point and 1 card
Or better still a Wireless ADSL/CABLE router and 1 or 2 cards and plug your broadband connection straight into the router.
If you go either of the 1 card routes you use a Cat5 patch lead to connect the router/access point to one of the machines.
