Hi Guys

We need to move quite soon and we're thinking of relocating down to Bristol. I just wanted to know where I should avoid. Ive already had a few suggestions from people at work but just wondered if you guys have some suggestions too.

Cheers
Neil

all depends. where your working, if you mind travelling, if your renting or buying a house/flat if you want to be by the city or the cows, if you need a safe place for kids to play/go to school etc etc

But if you do come to Bristol welcome!!! were all a friendly bunch

Avoid St Pauls like a dose of the clap.....

Johnny is from Bristol so may be able to offer advice.

That said, Johnny is probably worth avoiding like the clap too tbh

Pretty much parts of any suburb has it's problems being a major city but from a personnal point I'd avoid St Pauls,Portishead,Easton & lower Fishponds. But like I said there's always some sort of issue with any neighbourhood,it's just wether you choose to tolerate it or not!:)

Knowle West is pretty iffy too :wack:
Knowle itself is ok in places I think though. One of the guys on here is from there

Cool. Thanks for the input everyone. Looks like Ive a few more to add to the list.

Everyone Ive spoken to says avoid Knowle West. St Pauls is a new one.

I just need to wittle down the houses for now. When I look around them I'll decide if they're for me or not.

Cheers Guys

They are some nice areas just outside Bristol, in the rural parts but still only 30 mins from the city centre.

Most of the main places to avoid have already been said, I live in Brislington and while some still say its a little rough, I have never had any problems, happy to leave my 13 anywhere around here.

G/F is in Whitchurch and I have never seen any trouble up here, don't get no groups of kids or really any hastle.

Quite happy to walk about at any hour without worry, the houses are nice as well but I know from what my parents say as the area is improving houses prices are going up.

A place that is going down hill very quickly is Stockwood, was such a nice place when I was a kid, now its full of kids drinking and mopeds at night, wouldnt want to let my kids play around there, but there is some sweet fields and paths there.

A mate lives in Knowle West, never had any problems leaving my car there for a few hours but had his Punto broken into 2 days after buying it, and his Dads car got the rear wing kicked in for no reason.

Never really got on well with Horfield either, crappy area, always congested, had a older car broken into there.

No worries, I'm not being put off. Just need to know, especially with some new build areas looking quite good but then you find its a nightmare.
Had a look round Whitchurch on sat. Looks good down there. Are there any problems up around parkway? Bradley stoke, stoke gifford?
Heard Lawrence Weston is rough too?

Lawrence Weston isnt the best. Bradly Stoke area is ok. A mate lives there has had a number of performance cars including a R34 and never had a problem. His 2 bed flat will be up for rent soon if ur intrested!

If your looking for a new build house, mangosfield has aload and that should be ok, even thought about living there myself.

Not to sure why Portishead was put in with the likes of St Pauls etc. 2 friends live there and they said it fine and posh :ghey: A number of Bristol City players live there and there is millionaires road where celebs live.

Bradley Stoke has good links to the motorway but is miles from bristol and a bit dull.
St.Pauls is an up and coming area on the doorstep of cabot circus with loads of character but can somtimes be sketchy but gets a lot of bad press from people who dont know the area.
Portishead is miles from anywhere.
Easton is up and coming but can be sketchy.
Places worth a look include Totterdown, Windmill Hill, Bedminster, Brislington,
Fishponds, Montpelier, Bishopston, Horfield and Filton.

I've lived near parkway for the past year, was in stoke gifford now in bradley stoke (just next door) and they both seemed alright, no more crime than usual places.

as mentioned, not the best for getting into town although because of the trainstation pretty good for busses, and it ain't quite a hip hop and happening place but it's very good for link roads and if you work close by :D

I'd say find somewhere you can rent on a month by month basis and look around whe you're down here

I personally would avoid Clifton. There is bugger all parking and people seem to think touch parking is acceptable.

The best suggestion as someone has mentioned is it depends on where you are working. There are some routes you really don't want to commute down. Traffic is dire and does not move very quick.

xD its Bristol, its all got traffic! Rush hour everything stops for what seems like any direction. Gotta be clever on the side roads, or just wait it out on the carrageways. =/

Sitting in traffic I always feel like that I think its Clio advert, with the sporty car just sat in traffic.
