is the sound coming from your hard drive?

check the cabling, try swapping it with the CD-ROM cable...

if it is the hard drive clicking rythmically, it could be crashed heads (read - dead drive)

How many bleeps are you getting ? When you switch your comp on. but it is sounding like your Hard Drive has gone.

Difficult without hearing the sound.

I have heard hardrives go. and they make a fast ticking sound:(

can you get into the bios? ie are you getting any picture at all? could try booting from a floppy if you have a boot disk.

Hmm. Its not the HDD thats clicking, i have the cover off the side of the PC.. And occaisonally, the clicking noise isnt there on power on.. Then the next time it will be.

I thought maybe the CD Writer was playin up, so i pulled the cables out the back and turned it on again (Is the big one called the IDE cable, and then a smaller one next to it, power supply i presume). Turned it on again but to no avail.

The clicking would appear to be eminating from the motherboard, or around that area.... hmm..

Thanks

sounds odd. is it one of the fans broken and clicking instead of spinning?

a lot of motherboads wont boot if the CPU fan isn't working.

Yeah sounds like the fan. Has your computer been dunted recently or anything? Maybe the motherboard or something on it is touching something it shouldn't be e.g. the case. Happened to me once, luckily I got away with it. Try a new power supply if you've got one or can get hold of one.

could well be your power supply.

It's worth a try. My last one died very quickly. One day it's working fine, next day it doesn't do a thing. Also check all the fans are going round and not fouled by wires or anything.
