View Full Version : Meet next week sometime

m.d. and I are going to meet up this week somewhere mid way between Plymouth and Exeter to compare and contrast RBs :D

Anybody fancy coming along too, for a social and maybe to investigate our cars? :)

We're going to find a pub somewhere half way, and meet there, just thought I would see if anybody else in the area was at a loose end really :)

On a slide side not to this, at Rarerims on Tuesday Chriscooke is coming to visit so we can tinker with his car ready for MOT. If anybody fancies coming along and lending a hand, we'll be getting started at about 1800 :)

Both - would love to! BUT (and its a big but!) We have Bex''s mum here so I can't really disappear for the evening and I still have some way to go sorting out a few bits on the car ;) You know what I mean!!

By all means pop over to mine one evening though! I'll check with the boss-lady about dinner here for you too ;)

That's very generous of you Teggers :)

Hopefully I will be able to make the trip back to Southampton with your car parts in the S15... not as practical as the S13 though :wack:

Lol! You know you're welcome here! Its just a bit more difficult next week due to Bex's mum being here although I'm sure she wouldn't mind - I did mention you popping over to them last night and neither raised any objections ;)

m.d. - After next weekend would be cool for me - would be able to show off my new bits! Or have the piss taken out of me for cocking them right up. depends on the next few evenings work ;)

The Route 38 meets are a bit far for us with new baby so something a little closer (between Exeter and Plymouth) would be better - I'd either come on my own (if I'm allowed out!!) or with Bex and Etienne but not stay for long.

I'll come along and kill 2 birds with one stone if you got the consult lead! lol

So can i head over to Rare rims tomorrow for around 6pm?

Do you have everything needed to do the ecu now? (once we figure out how to use it)

n00b question here... will this re-map the original chip in the car? Or specifically the Nistune et al boards? (Basically, I'd like to not have to pay nigh-on £200 for a re-map but I will if its the only way I can do it!)

Chriscooke
07-09-2009, 15:06
I thought that it was so adam could use a chipped ecu that he's bought from another car in his:confused:

Adam0bmx0
07-09-2009, 15:56
Yea, i've got a s14a ECU with a H-Dev stage 1 chip fitted, just need to re-sync it so it works with my NATS. Wonder how it will effect the car with the chip (power feeling wise), hmmm. :) Can whack my boost back upto 15psi then! :D

Teggers
07-09-2009, 15:59
Lol! I'm looking forward to upping my boost again too. Once I get the new turbo on (nowt special - just another standard T28 to replace mine which has the bearings going, I think) we'll be popping up to Sir Jez of Horsham for a chipping session ;) Having to make do with 0.5bar max boost at the moment.

It wont remap the stock ECU
You cant manually remap them, you'll need stand alone like powerfc of nistune... who said it costs £200 anyway??? Was the same guy asking you to bend over at the time? :p

H-dev website said so (http://www.h-dev.co.uk/index.php?cPath=42_47&osCsid=d2ad061b295154ea37af84e271b7bda3) but then thats the chip as well - albeit pre-mapped.

I am going to fail at this, this week.

I have to go to Southampton Wednesday to move the boat ready to come out the water to try and get sold over the next 3 weeks. Loads to do, and no time for playing :(

Tuesday is the only day I have spare, so will be doing this evening tomorrow helping Adam / Chris but no more fun this week :(

Let us know when you go as I will most likely go the 1a route as I can't afford any other way of doing it for a while:(

I don't suppose that anyone thats going tomorrow has any silicone hose that I can beg/buy/steel so I can remove my mbc for the mot at put the car back to actuator pressure?

I know - you lectured me about it at Exeter... I can see the benefits of Nistune/Power FC etc but the simple fact is I can't afford it.

A) Will do

B) Yes. But not going up the RR tomorrow. Feel free to pop down to mine if you can't get any from other sources though.

Change of plan. I'll be popping up to Rare Rims tonight after work but cannot stay long.

Ben, I'll remove bumper there if its ok. (PM'd as well)

Chris, Got some silicone hose in the boot for you if you will still need some.

Sure it's only a false economy if you plan on doing many alterations to your car in the future and need one that is adjustable. Pre-mapped chips can be sold on as everyone knows what they are getting when they buy it second hand.

A decent mapable ECU is easily gonna cost upwards of £500 for the ecu alone, and then you have hundrends of pounds worth of mapping to get it to where you want it. I fail to see how a pre-mapped is a false economy. If we had the money we would all likely go for a decent standalone ECU however.

It's only a false econemy in terms of it not being mapped to your exact car, and as every car is different, they wont always get the best out of the car :)

Nearly a 4h round trip! lol EDIT, i tell a lie its 3h 15min according to google, lol.

The missis was going to come with me but i might tell her not to bother, was going to pop in Torque GT to test out a DC2 but might knock that on the head.

It'll be worth it in the end mate:nod: You'll get yourself some tyres (I imagine thats why your in honiton) and you'll be able to up your boost and save fuel in the process:nod: Bit of a result for 4 hours driving in my eyes:D

Adam0bmx0
08-09-2009, 11:48
Ok, missis is fine with it and still wants to come! lol EDIT< no she isnt, as were not going to look at a DC2 lol, i just wanted to see what one was like but it can wait.

Ben i may aswell make the trip over if im up that way. So i'll be over there around 5:45-6pm :)

And yes, tyres from Honiton! lol

Ben, you got any 18" part worns you want to sell? :D

Chriscooke
08-09-2009, 12:19
When you see martin why not ask if he wants to pop over to RR as well. He might be interested in bens car also:nod:

Edit: Cheers teggers let me know what you want for it:thumbs:

Don't worry about it mate - you shouldn't need much of it! I just hope I have the right size with me :wack:

I won't be there long tonight - just enough to remove my bumper, mount indicator bulbs to I'm kind of legal :D and home again. Spraying tonight

For anyone interested, I have been taking pics of my progress and, once finished I'll pop them onto photobucket ;)

Teggers
08-09-2009, 13:31
Nope. Don't want to ;) Mainly as most of the work and parts on my car were done before I bought it. I don't want to detract from John's efforts! And after this, there will be very little, if anything, more done.

Will be saving the project thread for a more focussed car - I still have to use this every day!

Exactly what ben sayes your CA wont be the same as an other with the same mods. And it restricts you... you have to build up all the mods before you can jump to the next premapped ecu and spend more money!
Pretty much all standalone ECUs have there own diagnostic utility and can provide tweeking by the user if they are willing to learn abit more about the car rather than jump in, drive, and boast about what stage they are on!

And this whole stage thing pisses me off aswell... who sets the stages??? Is there an official stage setter??? Why not jus compare proven dyno results or road tests??? Stages are :ghey: and means feck all! Stage 3 S13 aint the same as a Stage 3 Supra is it now.

Ah, didnt realise RR was so far out of exeter, im going to Honiton 1st, so looks like i'll have to double back on myself a fair way, twice, lol

Cool, cheers  Trying not to incur the wrath of Bex at the moment. She seems to think I'm spending too much time on the car. It needs to be done though and I have time constraints. I'm sure she will see this eventually. But in the meantime, she's growling at me :( I think its just that she wants to spend more time with me and wants me to spend more time with Etienne.

Although there's not a lot I can do - my boobs don't work the way he wants them to. He either wants to eat, sleep, poo or fart. Thats about it at the moment so not a lot I can really do! I will do lots with him when he's a little older though...

Evilchap
08-09-2009, 15:42

Cheers ;) I think I'll have an hours leeway (told her I'd be home approx 7:30) so hopefully will be able to stop for a short chat. Really want to see your car too :D

Speaking to a couple of female friends/colleagues: apparently her hormones are up and down quicker than a lunchtime stripper with 5 pubs to do for at least a couple of months after giving birth. So I have another month of this yet. The nice times are nice but the not nice times are hell.

Chriscooke

Teggers you have got to hope she doesn't read this or you'll be sleeping on the sofa:D

Teggers
08-09-2009, 15:57
I am at the moment anyway. Her mum's in the spare room and Etienne wakes up every couple of hours for a feed. Sofa is the only way I get a half-decent nights sleep. The dog is not amused though - he likes to have the sofa for the night!

I can't exactly do much about it when he wakes up for a feed anyway and Bex can doze during the day - I have to work.

And I may well edit this later in case she does see it... :wack:

I'm not exactly keeping what I'm doing secret, quite a few people know about my various plans, I just don't want to announce them to the world till I'm ready to do so!

Didn't think you'd be one for blingin' chrome wheels though :(

ha ha yeah I know mate I was just taking the michael. I was looking at the style/fitmant more than the colour choice to be fair. The colour didn't actually look that bad tho to be honest.
