View Full Version : Dremel, any good for polishing?????

i want to finish the engine bay off
by polishing all the pipes and stuff:cry:,
but being a lazy sod :D i thought i would let
somthing else do the hard work:p ,
so is the dremel the answer to all my polishing need's:confused:?

Dremel type tools are good for small bits, so for derusting or small detail work of bolts, small brackets etc ... they are brill.
You will find you go through a fair few of the tiny wire brush heads though.
So good for small bits but not if you want to polish large areas.

Die grinder and polishing compound for big stuff. I think places like Screwfix and Toolmart would do them, about £100

b+q had a special offer on mains powererd dremel type things xmas time mine is excellent and was only £15

If you have got decent access to the pipes then I'd try some wet and dry. Start with a course grain, loads of water and just work your way down. Have to have good access though so you can get a good contact with the paper.

You can get a 'Mr Fastner' 20 piece polishing kit from M and P which fits on an electric drill. Costs about £50 and comes with lots of mops and polish. It'll polish stainless steel and aluminium.
