View Full Version : Damn reporting
Why is the news so bloody biased. Is there sole purpose to stir up trouble.
I was watching GMTV this morning and their headlines "Alsatian kills child". Then as they go through the report they explain that the woman had 2 dogs (GSD & little thing) and "they SUSPECT that it was the alsatian that attacked. The judge will decide later if the alsatian is to be destroyed.
They seem so quick to harm the reputations of certain breeds and cause problems.
I have a neighbour that wouldn't even come near Shelby when she was an 8 week old pup. She came close, said 'oh its and alsatian' and backed away.
I know that people are scared of certain breeds, and when someone is attacked it is awful. but badly put reporting does not help.

I agree, Usually find the dog has been provoked.
Dnno anything about it what happened?
Dunno anything about it what happened?
It happened in France. Someone left their baby (2 months old I think) with another woman. It said that she had been drinking so didn't hear the attack. Baby killed straight away. She is being done for manslaughter.
Tragic story and my sympathy is to the parents of the little one.:(
All that annoys me is the way it is reported. Immediately it is the GSD that is blamed. Little dogs can be just as nasty (if not more so) then big ones.
My dog is 13 years old and as soppy as anything. Never been anything other than soppy and kind all her life. But I would never EVER leave her alone in a room with baby JBess. To do so would be insane because you can never be sure.
I wish people would stop blaming the animals so much and put some of the responsibility on the owners.
Unfortunately, Shelby is a very nervous dog. She barks at everyone, but never nastily. We have a nightmare socialising her which being so ill all the time makes it even harder.
Most people just walk past and ignore her (I do apologise and explain that she is not being nasty) but then I come across some idiots that yell at me, which makes her even worse.
The trouble is people have no common sense at all. They blame dogs for biting but they never see that they aggrevate what was originally a manageable situation.
We had an English Bull Terrier once called Tes... (I loved that dog :( )
and she was built like a brick shit house and had a VERY deep bark... but you could pick her up and cradle her... I think it also has something to do with how they are treated...
It was a shame because my mum wanted to start breeding English Bull Terriers (she has bred Yorkshire Terriers since I can remember) and everything went fine until we took her to the local vet, the vet basically opened her up far too earlier during the pregancy and killed all the pups (infection I think) and later she died aswell... :( :(
Its wierd how much you can get attached to a dog....
I had never had a dog because my mum didn't like animals that dropped fur. So one day I came home with a snake.;) Needless to say she would rather have let me have a dog! Oscar is great and I love him to bits.:)
There was a story last week:
"Staffordshire terrier Savages owner"
Suddenly calls for all Bull Terriers to be put down etc.
Follow up appears a couple of days later:
"Man savaged by dog was having fit" - turned out the guy had an epileptic fit and the dog was trying to revive him ...............
Needless to say one was front page, the other was halfway down page 11 or something
Yeah, there is a lot of bad press given to hounds.
I looked into it a lot at one point, especially Dangerous Dogs Act legislation.
The funny thing is, I have had more probs with Yorkies than i have ever had with Dobes, Pit Bulls or Staffs. Yet Yorkies aren't under the DDA?
There was a story in the dog press years ago about a baby who was killed by the family hound - and the parents said that it wasn't the dogs fault.
They had left the baby near the dog for 5 mins. and, as babies do, it had prolly poked the dog in the eye, bitten it etc etc. And a dog being bascially a wild animal, had given it what would have been a friendly slap.
Most dog probs are caused by the owners training them to be vicious or encouraging them consciously or sub consciously. You do get a few cases, like Hayley's Shelby, where the dog is nervy anyway and has had probs socialising through illness - but this in no way makes them aggressive. I've known several mad hounds who are really soppyonce you get past the inital barking and posing, especially if you difuse the situation with body language.
ANd then there are teh genuinely psychotic dogs, but then again you get psychotic ppl!
What is worrying is the way news is portrayed and taken in by the public.
There is a campaign going on at the moment.
dominodogs (http://www.dominodogs.org/)
Geramny want to ban certain breeds of dog, but wait for it....
they want to ban them according to height.
Thsi will include golden retrievers, labs, etc.
