My Dad towed me and the 2***** into Bristol this morning (hence this early post!).

We left around 5am to avoid the traffic (yawn.....).

Anyway, I couldn't find the book for the car so I stuck her in Neutral and hung on.

Please tell me that was the CORRECT thing to do............

Now let's hope the diagnosis for my ill engine is not big bad news......I find out this afternoon

No,

When towing an auto, you need to ensure that the driven wheels are off the road and not turning.

You can feck the slushomatic otherwise.

Have just looked at my S14 handbook an it matches what Merc say in their handbooks too.

You can tow it for up to 25 miles at speeds not exceeding 30mph. After that the driven wheels should be clear of the ground.

Think you should be ok then :)

I always thought you could tow an auto for a limited distance, like 40 miles or something.

Phew! (Ripper wipes himself down with the towel of relief).

I hope you're right, JB.

Thanks for the positive opinions, lads. The '£££' factor is bad enough without buggering up my gearbox, too!

I had a word just now with Mr.Garageman and he says it should be ok........

That's a very sexist comment for this time of the morning.

I like it...:D

You should be alright, handbooks usually say can be be towed for a limited distance provided teh speeds do not exceed 30mph. Some even say that you shold top up the ATF periodically throughout the journey. It's something to do with the hydralic pump not working when teh engine is not working.
