View Full Version : 'Kin M25
So who got caught in the jam on the M25 yesterday then? Me and the missus were on the way back from Hickstead with her horse in the lorry, took us two hours to go from M23 junction to Reigate junction. Normally about 2mins in the car. Apparently three women got out of their car on the hard shoulder and were subsequently run down and killed.

Distinct lack of smileys in that post?
Are you taking the piss?
'Is that all?' apparently 3 people were killed,
these things are not nice to read about, so what if you got stuck in traffic, at least your still alive.

I saw the accident (or what was left of) from the other side on the way home from Japfest.
There was 3 or 4 cars in a bit of a state. Dont know anything about it, but what on earth would people be doing out of the car in the 3rd lane

i remember seeing one of the progs on TV where a guy was changing NEAR side wheel whilst parked in lane 3!!!
What happened to the 3 on the M25 isn't nice but some people must be held accountable for their actions. I think this guy was given 3 points+£40 fine, but what would have happened if someone had to swerve to avoid him and caused a fatal accident?
Like hotrod said, at least we are all alive.
Andy (suffolk1) was on his way down to see me yesterday, and must have been past the spot only seconds after it happened :( He saw two of the women lying in the road :(:(

Yeah i passed that going the other way just after it happend!:(
must admit that i did'nt see anything as it was pissing down and the visibility was terible! stupid thing to do! but very sad nonetheless!:(
and yes its a pain being held up! but have some compassion man!!
Years ago driving back from Manchester from some student bash in the middle of the night, I drove into the back of a Granada in lane 3 of the M6. Turned out he'd stopped to fix a flat and turned his lights off so his battery didn't run flat.
Just as well I was trapped in the car or I'd have fcuking killed him.

Thats nasty. Blame the gov't for that one - driver education sucks. If they were properly informed, then they would have known not to get out of the car at all. And to the *****/ette that run them down - WAKE UP YOU TWAT! They had better never forget what they have done. The motorways are full of gormless, half asleep ppl and its got to stop.

well i was looking at it from a damage limitation exercise, and focusing on the fact that too many morons have accidents while driving in a straight line at a constant speed. probably on mobile phone or something. every week i'm stuck in traffic cos of some such moron. there are people on the board who can drive a car sideways and not have an accident and yet these idiots cant even do what they've got a licence to do!
edited to say: you're right tho. sorry for sounding like a cvnt; i'm just trying to harden myself mentally for the shit that happens in life. anyone who knows me will know whats happened recently to me, and will probably know that i'm jealous of those women...... :( oh and i had one of those emotional troughs today.

Darwin in action. If you're mind-boggling stupid enough to be running around the fast lane of a motorway, you deserve all you get.

Much as i sympathise with the relatives of the three that were killed, there is a sentiment of truth in that statement. I have seen a couple of accidents were a car has had a flat, the owner has left the car in the fast lane and then walked/ran across teh inside lanes to stand in the hard shoulder. The carnage that followed was unreal.

I agree Keith.
As Trace said, I came across this one on Saturday :(
on my way down to see her. Could only just have
happened as there were only about 20 cars in front
of me when i got to it, all trying to find a way around
the accident.
The car they had been in was facing the wrong way
in the 3rd lane, and there were about 8-10 cars
involved in the carnage, blocking off lanes 1 and 2.
I'm no rubbernecker, but picking my way through the
debris in lane 4 to get past, i couldn't help but notice
two of the woman lying on the road, one fairly close
to the car, the other 20 yards away, lots of people
milling around looking shocked :(
Was a very nasty accident, and would have taken a
while to clear as there was debris all over the road,
not to mentioned getting an ambulance through
to take the bodies away :(
Me and my mate were coming back from the show and we must have just missed the crash, because the tail back was only a few 100 yards...
christ.... I cant really give a opinion until I know what really happened... but I do agree that if someone has got out in the fast lane... then thats their own doing... but if 3 people got killed...
Shite :(

one presumes that they did not get out of the car until it stopped, this have been several seconds from when the accident happened, for a van to then run them over seems like a lack of concentration on the van drivers behalf. lack of observation and travelling too fast. after all it was not night time, and if it was raining then he/she should have been travelling slower and keeping further away from the vehicle in front.
I was following a white merc van for a short
time, and let it go off into the distance coz he
was driving like a dickhead
Waaay too fast for the conditions - it was
pissing down, loads of spray etc, and he was
chopping lanes, and tailgating.
i dropped back a good mile or so behind the van
as it looked like an accident waiting to happen :(
strange sense of deja vue, as i rather suspect
that this was the van that killed the women :(

might be worth a chat to the old bill then, according to the local news they are appealing for witnesses, and if it was the same van then the driver deserves to be taken through the legal system and be prosecuted (IMHO)

whilst we've got onto the subject of people driving like cnuts, as we turned off of the m23 to get onto the 25, people were reversing back up the hard shoulder and then cutting across the three or four lanes of the slip road to get back onto the 23. Watched as a coach had to take all kinds of evasives to avoid flattening a pr1ck in a mini. Her indoors flamed some twat in a Montego estate who was driving up the hard shoulder and got caught behind a broken down Lotus, much to the amusement of everyone else who had waited patiently in the queue.

I found out today what actually happened. They clipped the central reservation avoiding another car that lost control in fornt, then got out to INSPECT THE CRASH DAMAGE IN THE FAST LANE!!!!!!!!
The van driver hit them, lost control, and hit another car in the hard shoulder.
I originally thought that ther were in the hard shoulder, moving somewhere safer.
I'm going to go against the grain here and agree with Keith. darwin in action.
The fact is simple - sometimes when you do a REALLY STUPID thing, you get killed. fact of life.

Stopping in lane 3 is stupid full stop. But I can kind of see how it can happen. I used to have an Astra and was going up the M1 around 70 in lane 3. All of a sudden car cuts out, no power whatsoever. The ignition module had failed. My first reaction was to slow down and stop, only after a few seconds did I realise how difficult it was to get to hard shoulder whilst slowing down:( .
I managed it but if the volume of traffic had been much more then I think I would have had to stop in lane 3:( :(
