View Full Version : headgasket recommendations
i am going replacing the headgasket on my drift car with a metal one but i am wondering what thickness gasket to use and is it the same as a s14 headgasket.
Spec on car
Uprated cams and standard turbo but will be up rated at a later stage this year(my last hks one gave up) i am running on 104 octane and am hoping to run a good bit of boost still have standard internals
What turbo are you going to run?
holset hx35 i don't know if i am going to fit it before the end of this year or not funds depending.
That means nothing to me, dont deal with Holeset turbos but if youre running standard internals, around 360bhp and the head and black havent had significant material taken off them then Id fit a 1.6mm.
so does a s14 headgasket fit?
ok i searched around the s14 ones are different

would ask bren as he is a 200 god lol, tbh run with either a cometic or tomei iirc they are both very good for this application
S14 fit fine, same product.

Yip s14 has an extra part to seal but it won't matter. It will be fine

since i'm running 104octane bio-ethynol would it not be best to have a smaller thickness gasket to increase compression.
i would prefer to use the headgasket specified to the 180sx (s14 has a extra oil way for the vvt so its not the same product) aswell the last thing i want is to have to strip the engine to fit a headgasket again if something goes wrong

so it has an extra oil way to block so what. there's nothing there on your car but 2 flat faces of metal for it to compress against. it will be fine. if you think about it technically what can happen to make it fail

would it not be that the HG has the hole in it for the oil way but the block itself will just be flat there at that point?
if thats the case theres nothing to worry about, id be more worried if you had a 180sx HG on the s14a SR and then you having to make a hole in the HG to suit

Do you know anyone with experience of running 104 octane bio-ethynol on an SR with a HX35? If not then I personally would go safe with a 1.6 as you know that wont cause problems and regain power through advancing the timing.
If you can find a 180SX specific head gasket then go for it. I think that, as I said, youll find theyre the same product.
