Hellopee,
A mate at work has jsut asked me what might be causing his car to run crap, for the last half of his journey this morning his car has been really sluggish, says it feels like no turbo at 2k.
It's an Escort TD.
I'm gonna go have a looksie at it at lunch to check for the obvious,(actuator, boost pipes) is there anything alse you can think of for me to check?
Or is there any fundamental differences between pertol turbo's and diesel turbos I need to know?
Cheers. :)
Diesel pump timing :)
Dont know how to check it though :(

Does that count as rhetoric? ;)
Probably a pipe fallen off or split. Pump timing usually involves lots of black smoke when you don't expect it.
I'm not that au fait with Ford oilys, but there's usually a pipe from the "richness limiter" (Bosch terminology for the thing that sits on top of the pump) to the actuator that's tee'd into the normal signal pipe from the compressor outlet.
I think Ford use CAV pumps rather than Bosch, but the principle's the same. There has to be a boost signal to the pump somewhere.

cheers o font of stuff, but had a poke around nothing glaringly obvious, he will take it to a garage. :)
also check the filter... I had one  that the filter made up with shit and obviously stopped the flow. My mum had a prob at high speed when the airfiler imploded.

Sometimes when the pump timings wrong, you get white, funny smelling smoke.

Has it recently had a fuel filter??? If so check there is no leak from the filter or the actual filter head/primer.
Check all air intake pipe work, also the boost pipe on the pump. Also check the fuel feed and return lines for signs of rubbing in the engine bay causeing air to be drawn in.
What year is the car? If its got a cat on it, that may be blocked,
Thats the main things that seem to go wrong with these beasts!
HTH :)
