anyone play this?
I remember it being a major time sink and thats why I left but atm I think I could handle playing it a bit more :)
I logged in with the 1 free day come back trial thing and saw I had a Rokh which I think is meant to be a decent Battleship? not too sure if thats changed now.
Either way was asking as I know its a pretty serious game but was just checking if anyone here played it and was in a decent corporation to do missions and stuff in game with as if so I would like to come back to game I think :) :wack:
I still play, and it's still a big time sink. Eve doesn't lend itself to solo play very well, so finding a good group of people is essential.
ah this brings back memories,
ive just joined again and downloaded the client :)
epic epic game :D but a good corp is essential :) im in pirating corp atm ;)
I hate pirates. Assholes. :P
Played EvE on and off since Beta, just bumbling around empire.
Currently making stupid amounts of isk on lvl4 missions, in empire, so long as I can keep the ninja-salvagers out of my mission area. :wack:
empire is boring! :p get yourself into lowsec/nullsec where i can gank you ;)
always on the lookout for any unwanted chars :wack:

I play this, it's good fun. Currently in a new startup alliance (200 odd members at the moment).
I'd give out my character names if I didn't think I was going to get suicide ganked :wack:
well if anyone fancies me joining their coorp and showing me the ropes a bit that would be cool, on missions first of course against NPC's or I'll get bum raped I think I have regressed into newbie skill level as I don't remember most of the game, my ship looks nice tho! hahaha, I had a quick peek its not even fitted with anything :/
so I suppose i'd need to find a good Rokh setup somewhere online for missions? and trains skills up...I did notice all skills I already had were at lvl 4 though I think....not sure, is there and online checker? my characters name is Le Noodle lol and another called McNoodle (don't ask, I think I was eating Noodles at the time, not good with char names) hmmmm
Just started playing the 14-day trial myself, really enjoying it tho and likely to start paying when it runs out.
Name is Rossja, someone gimme a bump (and loads of ISK!) if you're on!

I tried it on a free trial a while back and gave up after about half an hour :wack:

It's a real steep learning curve but very rewarding once you get the hang of it.
Helps to find the career tutorial agents too as you get free ships, ISK etc from easy missions. Makes things alot more understandable.

I'm tempted but hate PC geeks. Plus I wouldn't know where to start. Love the idea though.
Is it free?

its a monthly payment type game I'm afraid although you do get first month free I do believe with the boxed edition... you can just download the full client too I think its like a 2.4GB download...

Is it the same as games like Anarchy Online and World of Warcraft? in that you enjoy it to start with but then the higher levels just become one long blurred 'grind'?
The grinding is where I lost interest in AO and WoW, managed to stick at AO for about 5yrs but only by playing it on and off i.e. taking months out in between levels :(

Can't really say for sure as I've only started recently, but I have played lots of other MMORPGs so I know where you're coming from.
This game doesn't have 'levels' or 'attributes' as such. Sure you can earn more ISK and get a better ship, but there isn't really a way to become overpowered as such.
At higher levels, you can still do mining or exploration instead of constant battles (which don't earn you experience or anything).
All skills are obtained by learning them, so even people who only play for 1 minute a day can still theoretically level their skills as fast as the next person
erm this is quite different higher up, theres many more thing swithin your reach the more you qualify in each learnable area and ships you can obtain, or form a corp and get a base, that kinda thing, I think the appeal to some in EVE is that it emulate salot of real life aspects especially financially an such...but I just like space games haha

How does it compare to single player games like...
the X series? (X: Beyond the Frontier/X2: The Threat/X3: Reunion)
Elite
Privateer 2 - The Darkening
(all games which have big universes, different ships for you to use, missions, trading etc)

That's what I was going to ask.
Jumping to Eve would seem a bit of a step down (aside from the multiplayer aspect) If I had to do away with the buisiness empire and slowly growing fleet I'm building in X3
I still havn't played it long enough to save up for a destroyer yet, need to so I can start some wars :D
That and just to survive as I recently installed the Xtended mod and transfered my save across. Who thought giving the pirates Frigates was a good idea?! :wack:
I think EVE is much bigger, every financial and business aspect from real life can probably be found in EVE, you can also manage various assets, form alliances with other corporations for various purposes etc...its very open... read more into it and you will see

So you pay monthly, how much? And do you have to buy the game as well?

So you pay monthly, how much? And do you have to buy the game as well?
not sure if you have to buy the game to start with but just looked on their site and heres the subcription prices...
How much is the monthly subscription fee?
Europe
Cost/Month Total Cost
1-month-plan € 14.95 € 14.95
3-month-plan € 12.95 € 38.85
6-month-plan € 11.95 € 71.70
12-month-plan € 10.95 € 131.40
Outside Europe
Cost/Month Total Cost
1-month-plan $ 14.95 $ 14.95
3-month-plan $ 12.95 $ 38.85
6-month-plan $ 11.95 $ 71.70
12-month-plan $ 10.95 $ 131.40
If you buy a 'timecode' from a reputable vendor, in dollars (as above), it works out quite a bit cheaper than paying the € subs. You can download the client for free or you can buy the retail version for £20 and get 30 days of play time for free and some shiny items that are selling for reasonable amounts of isk. If you know someone who plays, get them to give you a buddy code. You can get free time for them (if you subscribe) and an extended 21 day trial.
EvE stacks up along side the X series and less so privateer. You don't strictly fly your ship. Combat is more tactical, in having the right stuff fitted (versus NPCs) or being with the right bunch of people (versus players).
It really is about the market dynamics, though. There's so many different ways of making your isk...
yeh I was never good at the making ISK business LOL I just ran missions and it didn't really pay that weel back then...
If you've got a salvager out behind you and you're doing decent level 4 missions, you can rake in 150-200mil in a day.
3-400mil over a weekend isn't too taxing, or time intensive.
For those that still play this, CCP have announced they will be bringing out a console fps which will effect sov ingame. Can't wait:notworthy

What the hell! Used to take weeks to hit those sort of monies! Ill bet costs for the good gear has shot up though. did they ever redevelop the missile system as when they nerfed it my caldari character was made piss poor overnight.

There's loads of different missile and rocket systems :)
I've got the trial and have been playing it for a bit. Whilst it is decent I don't know if I can be arsed with all the faffing about.:indiff:

Well, a titan is going for upwards of 65 billion isk, or was last time I played.
They re-did all the combat systems, in the end. Depends when you last played.
I gave up, in the end. Sick of being nerfed out into low-sec. Bored of being in hi-sec, so dumped 170mil SPs over 3 accounts.
anyone want to come out in 0.0 provence area let me know.
my chara only has 13million sp, u need at least 10mil to join corp :)

Do the tutorials to the max
Do all the tutorial missions...for every agent...for every high sec faction.
It'll net you +1.2 faction to all the major 4, over a weekend.

85% complete on download so as of now I have no idea what you're talking about :wack: :)
Thanks though :D
Going to spend tomorrow afternoon giving it a blast.
Depends how long you're g'na play it, really.
Best advice would be to spend a month training learning skills. It'll pay off over the next 3 years. :wack:

Doesnt matter, I have a new ship and platinum insurance ;)
I can see how this eats time ...
I gave up with this, I simply couldn't be arsed to spend that much time on it, think i'll do something productive instead.
