View Full Version : Pulsar GTiR volunteer needed
Does anyone know anyone whos got a GTiR who'd be willing to let me test a chipped ECU? I've got a GTiR ECU that contains my upgrade, just want to make sure it works and so on. I'm probably going to do a stage 1 remap if the chipped ECU works.
Ideally the person would live near Newbury :)
Cheers
Jez
This is quite interesting stuff Jez, what would the power gains be?
what mods would this ecu require? and also the set boost pressure?
Im pressuming around 280ish bhp
I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do just yet. At the moment I just need to make sure that my ECU upgrade works.
I can then map the ECU to a car of any specification :)
Is the Pulsar GTir ECU similar to the S14 200sx?
similar but not the same.
Jez,
As you can probably guess by my sig, I have a GTi-R :D I've just spoken to John_P and apparently we're meeting you on Saturday in the JapFest convoy. I live in Surrey, so I'm not too far away from you. Not sure what your upgrade involves, but I'm on standard internals, although I have uprated the air filter and exhaust. Apart from that, the car's pretty much standard.
Cool - I take it you're bring the GTiR along to Japfest then? If so, would it be possible for me try my ECU in your car. It'll take about 5-10 mins. Just unplug the stock one and plug my one in. Just need to see if the engine starts and runs OK really. That'll prove my ECU works, or not... :)
Then if you're interested I could map your car for a higher boost pressure.
It'd be great to get some more information on the GTiR as I don't know too much about them. By that I mean I don't know the usual upgrade route, what sort of boost pressure they can take etc etc.
I guess pulsars are similar to the S14 but with more go faster ancilliary bits that will allow 280-300bhp. I think a good mapped ECU will make a difference.
Yeah, the car's going to JapFest.

I'm sure we can come to some arrangement ;)
But yeah, I don't mind. I was going to have a boost controller fitted, but lets see how this goes. Helps us both out. Doubt I'll be able to run much over 0.8 bar (maybe 1bar if I'm lucky) as I only have a standard clutch. 1bar upwards, and the fuelling will need to be changed to compensate. Some peolpe are running 1.4 bar (about the max of the std. turbo) on standard internals, but at this boost pressure, the fuelling needs to be spot on and an uprated fuel pump is also recommended. Infact, on the GTi-R, it's recommended to replace it at 1 bar, better safe than sorry. Most common upgrade for the GTi-R is exhaust/filter (obviously), then 1bar of boost is the most popular.

Hope so! :)
Do they suffer from fuel cut like the S13?

Cool.
Well I'll be able to sort the fuelling and ignition out for increased boost pressure - and at least you've got some decent sized injectors as standard ;)

Yeah as what Fizzy says the Pulsar sounds like it does have a fuel cut above 1bar, but you will find that out jez as you are tuning the ECU.
yeah I guess so - I'll probably just remove the cut anyway...
Its good to hear you are expanding on your ECU Tuning Jez, have you got round to tuning 300zx's?
Replying for Fizzy as he can't get on..
Pulsar does not have fuel cut..
The only reason he mentioned the fuel pump, is that at above 1bar the fuel pump cannot supply enough pressure..
There you go!! :-)
Jez, you can contact Fizzy easiest by E-mail?!

Not actually done a 300ZX yet but I've got everything I need to do some of them :)

Cool - cheers :) I thought that might be the case.
I'll email Fizzy.

Probably quite high though? There is a cut on the map, but figuring out exactly where that is in terms of boost pressure is quite difficult. Best to experiment.
The Fuel cut is at around 1.2bar
Sorry slightly off subject but Jez how are the s14 bad boys coming on i aint been following the progress

You should speak to Crazy Eddie then when his Z is back on the road. :)

Well I have everything ready - I really need another volunteer with an S14 too... I'll start another thread in the S14 section when I'm ready :)
