Is anyone actually being worried about SARS.
I was watching discovery and they were saying that it is the same type of virus as the common cold, and the've not cured that yet.
Im not too worried but from what they are saying if this reaches the third world where advanced techniques are not avalible it will be a serious problem.
In 1918 the influenza breakout caused an estimated 50 million deaths.:(
What are peoples opinions on this.
Not very, at the moment. Although it does seem to be a nasty little bugger. If you're interested, the BMJ has had lots of stuff about it recently - see www.bmj.com. For example, see this (http://bmj.com/cgi/content/full/326/7394/850?ijkey=Z7TA6X.eX5EO2).
Although this (http://bmj.com/content/vol326/issue7395/twib.shtml#326/7395/0/a) is also rather frightening, in a different way. Ask yourself it it's really worth all the problems that screening brings with it.

Not overly concerned, but if it does surface, i won't be going to work!
Not yet, but it's worrying if it kick's off :( :(

Shouldn't joke really. Malaria kills 5million a year, has SARS topped the thousand yet?
PMSL!!! Kinda ironic that "Dr Nick" is asking this question ;) :D

They haven't bothered wasting the time on the common cold as its not really fatal. So there would be no need to work towards a cure:( Also if they did it would suddenly kill off the multi million pound industry that is over the counter remedies:o
No not overly worried. It's just the lates big thing the media are hyping up until soemthing else takes over (like another war perhaps).
Remember how, only a couple of years ago we were all going to be wiped out by Mad Cow Disease? Then the media forgot and we all got on with our lives as before.
do you think that sadam or osama or even korea (they don't like china much do they?) started it all?
im not worried about it at all cuz you then think about all the otgher viruses and diseases that currently have a strong hold over deaths a year. as previously said malaria claims shit loads of people and this is a media hyped thing.
