View Full Version : Fedex
right how BLOODY good do these guys seem? i thought they were a semi-creation of a Tom Hanks movie but hey they are fookin fast....has anyone had any experience with these guys? any down sides?
they are moving a parcel from malaysia to Sunderland for me in an attempted 2 days:eek:  and its on course cos its already in paris, so by 8 o'clock tomorrow i will know!:D
they dropped a £5000 server of ours on it's face:(
smashed the plastic front, damaged a hard drive beyond repair and knocked a couple of the cards loose.
They refused to pay because we had opened the package to check the damage at the other end and they said if the item could not be inspected by their damage assessment team exactly as it arrived on site, they would not pay out.
but that's the only time we've had any grief off them , they are usually prompt and fast.
I think that's the same with any big delivery company though. They very rarely pay out on damage claims.

ace:( glad you replied:cry:   ;)
so if my box is bent back double and small metal particles drop out of a punctured hole in the box, i shouldnt open it?:D
After Paris your parcel will come to stanstead (spelling !!) and I hope its of no value. Because Fedex customs clearance is bas****d.
We use them all the time to import products of value ($1000+) and they are useless tw4ts.
They know our company VAT number (we have an account with them) but they still hold our goods at customs clearance until we give them a VAT number.
We go through this every 2 weeks..Fedex are crap but better than DHL and UPS.

guh it is valued at $300US does this mean i shall be shafted? and heres another question, can they insist that its worth more if it looks nice and clean and expensive? ;)
The person who shipped it has to send an invoice stating the price and they take that as the value for customs
You have to pay 17.5% VAT on it - because its valued over £25.
$3000 = £1875 (estimate rate of 1.6, see www.xe.com for an exact rate) so you will have to pay £328.125 + any customs.
Thats not such a high amount, but they wont release the goods until its paid.
They can not insist its valued at more, it is based on the invoice value. When ever you import stuff you should always under value your invoice.
$3000 shouldnt cause you a problem its a tiny amount.
We sometimes import goods via Fedex for invoice value of $50,000, but I think they treat one off personal imports different to business. Im just moaning cause they cause us so much grief
Once we brought in some stuff before christmas from Hong Kong. It landed in Stansted and as usual 'they needed a VAT number' and 'payment' before they release goods, even though we have an account with them. The Fedex office in HK put our office number down incorrect. So they couldnt contact us. So they put our stuff back on a plane to HK. HK office put correct phone number on airway bill, and they shipped back to UK.
It was a total pi55 take...why didnt they just ring HK office or write us a letter, first class. Even better why didnt they look up our account on there computers and get number from there
heh cheers for the help guys, sunnyzx tis 300 dollars not 3000, you shit me right up there with your amount of import duty:D:D:D
cheers wak
we shall see tomorrow then
cheers
Matt
