View Full Version : Your advice please - work related (laws etc)
My company want me to sign a contract stating that I have to give 3 month's notice to leave. I am currently only contracted to one months notice.
I do not want to sign this as I feel it would make me far less employable to future company's.
Do I have to sign it?
Can the company sack me if I don't sign it?
Please help!
Ta,

Do what I'd do... Put it in your 'in' tray and forget about it! After 6 months or so people stop asking, and you can bin it :)
hahaha I do that with sick forms. we have to fill in sick forms even after one day of absence, and have a post sickness interview!

That'd be what I'd do.
If they keep pressing though you should go to your union (if you're in one) or have a direct talk to whoever has issued this, in front of witnesses.
They can't just change your contract at a whim. Any change of contract, assuming you've been with them for 2 yrs or more has to be by mutual consent.

Did exactly same with me. I kept putting it off, managed for nearly a year:D but then I had to sign. I told them I wasn't prepared to sign for 3 months so settled on 2 instead. Don't know how it stands legally though. CAB should be able to help??
On the other side of the coin they have to give you 3 months money if they make you redundant
There not the kind of company to work it in my favour!
