View Full Version : A couple of preliminary pictures of Clive
Clive the Bastard, sorry, Cosworth, was looking a bit tired - touching up damaged and rusty panels had resulted in him ending up several shades of magenta, the bumpers were sagging, and in general he needed some work. Some friends of mine have just opened a garage and bodyshop, and offered me a deal that I couldn't refuse to fully fettle him.
I went for a gander at progress so far. I wasn't expecting him to be so naked

That's all I've got for now, but the guys at the garage, Dave and Sarah, have been taking pictures of every stage and I will post them up with a link to them once it is all complete. Remarkably, for a 20 year old Sierra, it is relatively rust free, so buying a barn find has paid off for me.
Prescott Hill, here we come :D

that's
are you planning to do any subtle under carpet modifications? a bit of stitch welding perhaps ? ;)
A few more of work in progress...

I'm still desperately hoping it will all be done by the Weekender, but time is running out

I do miss Clive - I've need some performance back in my life and while the MX5 is a lot of fun, and the BMW does have a turbo, sometimes you just need something with some real urge under the bonnet.
Well, progress is starting to happen - paint has started to be applied, valve stem seals will be replaced over the next couple of weeks and then it is a case of rebuilding him. I should get him back in time for the weekender, as long as the guys doing the work remember where everything goes. I'm half expecting a box of leftover bits at the end of it, a bit like in Doc Hollywood :wack:

Looking forward to seeing him/her. Looks like they are going a cracking job mate
The wheels should be done this week or next - they look like they have been resprayed with a hoover at some point, so I can't wait for them to be restored
Planned mods while its like that? Bushes maybe?
Coming along well
Not a mod as such, but the head is being rebuilt/reconditioned at the same time. And the gearbox is being looked at because the change from second to third can be a bit "crunchy" (technical term) on fast changes from second to third. I'm running out of spare cash, so re-bushing will be done later in the year :)
Looking forward to seeing it at prescott
Dunc.
Starting to look shiny...

That looks stunning, nice to see someone taking so much care over a lovely car!! I was going to mention the alloys, glad your getting them redone aswell!! I may try to make the weekender for a day, it will be nice to look over this, and a few other peoples car!
well done that man. spending money on a 20 yr old ford. lol. no, seriously im impressed! be great to see a gleaming cossie going down the road!:)
Good to see some attention to the cos:D but why oh why did you not take this as an opportunity to have him resprayed white:D and get rid of the horrible brown colour:wack: mine was exactly the same!

I like the Magenta colour  If I had him sprayed white then I'd only have the urge to put cow patches on him, and that would look stupid on a Cosworth :D

My 20 year old Sierra is far, far less rusty than my 12 year old Nissan was, even before the work was started on Clive ;). Worth spending the money on
I have a brand new cosworth badge to go on that bootlid somewhere :D
Great project and one worth doing  Must resist the urge to buy a ropey sapph and do the same :wack:
I would say the 200 is a better car to drive but as a resto project I would get 10 times more satisfaction doing a cossy than a 200
whats the steering wheel like Aitch? i have a spare of those as well :D
I can vouch that Neville had seen better days underneath and on the front inner arches....

because 90% of saph cossies are white!:D

Thanks for the offer Mark, but the steering wheel is fine. The plastic gear pattern thingy on top of the gearknob is cracked so if you've got one of those lying around... :wack: :D

Fair enough,Magenta was my favourite colour too.....until I had it,then I wished it was white:rolleyes: but I had to sell mine anyway so hey ho-one of the most fun cars Ive ever driven:nod: they just feel special when you sit in the drivers seat, like a school kid:D
I think I have my old cossie gearknob around somewhere too.Il have a look;)
I called in today to pay some money towards this and had a look round it for a progress update. Wanting it to be ready for the weekender, I was slightly perturbed to find the engine missing from the car...
Dave's only gone and removed the whole thing while the head is off, so he could paint it  :wack:

Went back today to get pictures of the engine. Sad, I know, but I don't care :D

Anyone else ever read these project threads and look at the dates of updates hoping for them to be ages ago so when you get to the last page you can see the finished project?
Looking good Aitch :)

Well hopefully, in a weeks time, you will be able to see the finished result. I'm also hoping to have all the pictures Dave and Sarah have taken during the process, from start to finish
Since the engine pictures were taken, Dave has painted all the wheels and pulleys, even though they will be hidden behind a plastic cover :wack:
The attention to detail has been second to none :notworthy
looking good, hopefully be back in time :)
Looking forward to the pictures Aitch. Are you going to post them up before the Weekender?

I probably won't have time - I've got a hectic week on :(. I'm off on the Monday following, so I will probably create an album then and get it posted :)
The engine is back in and I even heard it running today. I'm getting rather excited now :D
I've been banned from the garage now, and I'm only allowed back when the job is complete and the car will be revealed to me in a "pimp my ride" fashion. However, I have happened upon these updates...

Is the tea included with the wheels? lol looking like they are doing a cracking job!!! Always nice when you expect a good job but turns out they are doing even more than you anticipated:)
Well, Clive was ready for the weekender. Just :wack:
He was rebuilt and just about polished and apparently Dave hadn't been home for two nights in an effort to get him in a state where he was ready for me to take down...
http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs146.snc1/5413_124879612320_672047320_2738965_7721756_n.jpg
Dave was about to run out of silver paint for the wheels, so mixed it with some leftover blue. Close up, it worked, but from a distance they were too blue. Shiny mind!!! And there were a couple of scratches here and there and a bit of orange peel effect in other places. So Dave told me to take it back after the weekender to finish off and repaint the wheels
I've left a memory stick in the car for Dave and Sarah to put all the pictures of the rebuild onto :)

I dnt like that blue! But the rest looks lovely, bet it got plenty of attention
Sorry fella but those wheels look terrible :(
Dont go with the main body colour at all
Very nice... I wanted a RWD Saph yesterday and now I want one even more damnit :wack:

Well it was just to get them painted so I could take it to the weekender. He's back in now for them to be redone in silver, as they originally would have been :)

Good :D
Ive not got Clive back yet; he is still in having the final touches put in place, but pictures of the full build can be found in this album (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1601809&l=f6d1337dc7&id=672047320). There are a few pictures of my hairdressing mobile and the Bavarian barge (Max and Bernard/Vin) but the rest of them are all about Clive and his rebuild

Paint looks very good on there fella, also didnt realise they took the head etc off the engine aswell, should save you some maintainance for a while. Its gotta be nice having such a minter that has just been improved. Is it me though, or it the rear bumper sitting a tad saggy in the centre?
Unfortunately, both the bumpers are sagging slightly :(

Is that just an age thing then?? Could your friends not sort out a mount to hold it up a bit?

It is an age thing. We are currently investigating ways of improving it
Liked this at the weekender bud, keep up the good work.
Dunc.
Finally, Clive's back. With silver wheels this time and all shiny after a coat of wax  :D
