As title really, thinking to use some Motul fully synth 5w40, guy from opie recommended it.

Just curious as to what everyone else is using?

I read NGK Iridiums are the plugs to go for, but what heat range are recommended for a pretty standard car?

i use silkolene pro r 10w40 for the road car (no hard driving at all) and silkolene pro r 10w50 for the drift car and its fitted with a oil cooler also great for dry days.
I would go with 10w40 for a daily drive if driving it on the last thing u want to get is noisy tappets thats just my view tho.colm i reckon u should upgrade to 10w40 if doing track days the oil can get fierce hot and light and oil pressure can drop.i used to use a lesser qualitly oil last year and would notice this and i used change it after every event/trackday and that was with a cooler fitted

im pretty sure 5w40 is what the engine is suppose to use otherwise i wouldnt have gone as low as 5w40 and one for my usual 10w40

I think 10/40 is recommended not 5/40...

Il try that man thanks. I was going to try a different oil after my next oil change anyway. The current stuff really doesnt seem to stay healthy looking too long and my car doesnt get much hard driving on the road

Please explain how a 10w40 will be better than a 5w40 for a trackday  If anything he should upgrade to a 10w50

I also love the way you refer to Silkolene as a 'lesser quality oil' :wack:

10W50 silkolene Pro S upto now, but oilman is introducing a new range of Gulf Racing oils that look like they're worth considering...

with regards to plugs, i use NGK iridiums, basically because they're a bit more robust than the tiny electrode Densos. personal preferance

What heat range/ model number? and are they the standardish spec ones or for a seriously modded application?

With regards to oil, for a daily driven car, Oilman recommended 5w40, now im not so sure :annoyed:

NGK Iridiums as mentioned above seem resist falling apart far better than the Denso iridium plugs. In fact there was a thread recently of someones detting on an RR then losing a chunk of his Denso plug in the engine:eek:.

Silkolene 10w50 for my weekend only sr20.

For a daily driver thats fairly standard you should use NGK grade 7's (6's will be fine if you havent up'd the boost) and a 5w40 oil. Pick a good brand of oil, if you choose a semi change every 4-6k, if a fully synth then change every 6-10k

Job done :)

im getting confuzzled, i thought that a 0w40 was an oil grade better used if your gonna be giving it the beans round a track? or should it be 0w50?

i think ill need to read up on oilmans thread again

You dont need a 0w oil

For trackwork you want a 50w really. a good quality 40w synthetic will cope with the odd track session though :)
