View Full Version : question ???
:) i know this may sound daft to some of you,but can anyone tell me some bennefits of putting a car on the dyno/or RR ,as ive been told they can find problems that people without dyno cant ??
thanx,if u can (i gotta s13) by the way ;)
on the rolling road they can help you find out the power output and tourqe atw,it also lets you know if there be any flat spots or problems throughout the revs, you wouldnt be able to know this stuff by just doing mods or looking at the engine, its a intresting thing to do to see if your car is running smoothly,
thanx, at least it sownds better, cuz thats another step to my car running normal at least ! :)
Most places provide fueling diagnostics as well which is very important on turbo cars, try doing a search on under-fueling or detting on the techinal forums and you'll see what I mean.
Dunc.
does this mean my car may run perfect, cuz i do get a bit of a flat spot wen i put me foot down and thats at about 3000 or 4000 rpm  i say flat spot, but its like a quick chug  :|
what kind of stress dose putting a car on a rolling road do ?
how long do they have to rev to and for how long to get a accurate figure ?
dont know if i could have the guts to put my car on the rollers :|

Not put my own car on yet but seen loads of others, its pretty scary IMO. They gradualy build the revs up untill ~ the red line or just under over a time of about 1 min.
Dunc.
 i dont think i could do that to my poor car
the water pump and jackshaft would get to attached :|
mmmmmm scary..but my problem lies mainly in the deccelerating rather than trying to blow it up
surely theres gotta be some sort of security,...ant ther ?
I can't see any way that your car could be damaged. If the operator sees any problems showing up on the diagnostics, they will abort the run, so no damage will be done. It is a good thing to do anyway if you're going to start modding, as it will give you a good baseline BEFORE you do anything. I had mine RR'd before I did any mods, and went in thinking it might show up as a bag of pants and not make even standard power, but after the runs the operator said it felt very good and made 4bhp over standard. I was well chuffed :D

Not alot of stress realy, as long as they have a decent size fan all should be ok. all they do is steadily bring the revs up and then back off. Sound's an absoulte nightmare though, but what do you expect from a car doing 80 + mph in an enclosed space with the bonnet up.:D it's when you hear tinkly noises you shit a brick, eh Matt ;)
cheers guys, thats cheered me up a bit and ye it does make sense to have a good base for future mods  :D
ps wake up nismo !!!
but i bet no fan could keep my fecking british made head gasket killer engine cold enough i would be too scared it would overheat on the rollers.....its great in road contions but i bet it would not like doing that
i mean the fans cant be that good :|
when anyone has put there car on the rollers here how hot does it run......
but then again you have a well desined cooling system

About the same as on the road, theyre only short runs and the fan is directed toward the ic and rad. if your doing alot of runs the temp may creap up a bit.
yes..... but your car is made in japan and is reliable
my car was made by a load of people from coventry in the middle of a strike :D
i will put it on the rollers just wont watch....:|

its been reliable and a pretty fast first car but putting it on the rollers  could it take it
totally re con engine so its only done 10,000 miles so it really should be o.k ?

Still don't know what it is? :o
If its non-turbo then I wouldn't have any gripes about putting on the rolling road because there's lots less stress.
Dunc.
good ol triumph dolop of mite?
Ah, thats the only sprint I could think of but thought it must be something else.
Dunc.
trouble is my clutch is slippin so thats gonna make a diffrence, but to be honest with you im avin it done to try and find my surge/stutter at low revs wen dethrottling,problem...
but has anyone got any idea on how long it takes under normal circumstances ???:|
and if this fails ,then i dont know wots gonna happen
