might speak funny (i lost most of my accent years ago when i joined the army) but they certainly are more friendly than southern folk, any one agree
I do :D Always preferred northerners (but no offense to my southern mates lol)
Bit of a hybrid, me - born in yorkshire, brought up in the midlands, now live in the south, so can lay claim to anywhere in the country as my origin :D
Went up to stay in Sheffield with my ex...went to a pub just outside Tadworth and some old guy came pottering round the pub with bits of pork pie on a plate...offered some to us, even tho he didn't know us from adam...just summed up northern hospitality to me :)
Everyone knows that Northern folk are more friendly than the good old folk down south, but they have the ryhming slang tho which I think its funny don't get me wrong there are a few friendly southerners.

i find that in the supermarkets in dorking u r lucky to get a hello out of the checkout staff whereas recently during my visits to blackpool the check out staff in morrissons, well, they just cant stop chattering and laughing and joking, its the same in the pubs, down here i can go in a pub on my own and nobody will talk to me:( :( , up there they talk to any one:D :D

but would you wander over to a complete stranger in a pub and start talking to him/her (excluding pretty girls (or for that matter pretty men))(not wanting to be genderist, sexist or racist) :D :D
or parenthesisist even
No because Im a southern pansy :D
Dave
tis a point, maybe u should post a poll. "would u app[roch a stranger, for casual chit chat?"
I wouldnt have 5 years ago, but working in a pub, and also a job where u visit peeps houses, ,makes u more able to have idle bullshit chit chat i reckon.
Anyone who has went to or organised a meet for the first time knows u cant just kid on ur invisable, just say ello.
Im obviously a northerner.
Do tent to find the furtyer south u go, the attitudes are more closed off and frosty.
Kev
somerset people are usually very friendly ( or inbred)
