Hi,

i need to rebuild an HKS GT2530 turbocharger.
Got much blue smoke and some scrapping nose from the turbo.
When i pinched off the oil line to the turbo, its not smoking, so i assume seals are blown.
I took off the air intake and the pipes and checked radial and lateral play of the compressor side.

There is much radial play, but no lateral play. So the bearing is damaged.

Which costs do I have to expect?
Its a good turbocharger, very responsive and good power. Dont want to buy a new one.

PS: I know most parts of the Garrett GT2860RS are compatible, but if this page http://website.lineone.net/~jon_ed/Turbo_Table.htm is right, the compressor wheel is slightly different and maybe some else parts to put in the magic in that HKS turbocharger.

Are you kidding? So you deliberately starved a ball bearing CHRA of oil as a test...I suspect you will require a replacement CHRA now as a constant oil supply is crucial. A new CHRA for a GT2530 is circa £600 + vat...

Does the compressor wheel touch on the compressor cover?

Yep the compressor wheel touches the compressor cover, got too much radial play / side to side play.

I will keep you informed when i removed the turbo and if i send it to you.

It looks like one of those blades has a big chunk out of it - is it supposed to look like that?
