Mk4 or Mk5. I cant remember when they started the mk5 - thats the same shape one as the Zetec-s.
Never driven an auto, but the manual was OK if you're not too big and dont mind uncomfy seats. The 1.25 engine is quite poky for such a pathetically puny engine. Best engine by far was the turbo diesel on the Mk 5. I dont know if they did it on the mk 4.
I think the LX's have leccy windows and aircon as an option.
I think it a mk4.
Its for my brother i've got to buy him a car this weekend because his gearbox is on the way out and would cost too much to fix
Only slight issue is height, not a problem for me as i am 5ft 3" but my little brother is 6ft 3"
Car is a actual a 97 not a 98 thinking about it
fiesta 16v LX Auto for £3395 with 39K miles
Also possibly a
r reg fiesta 16v (base model) manual for £3495 with 30k miles.
Think the auto is a better deal as it looks much nicer and has all the toys.

Bare in mind you are looking at a 5-6 year old car that cost less than 10k when new. Ford Colchester cost an absolute fortune. The beauty of a Fiesta is parts are cheep as chips, and if you dont get a thrashed one it''ll last you for a lot longer that the price would suggest. Those Zetec SE(i.e. the 16v ones) engines are great (for a puny engine) and very reliable as they're japanese designed.
The going rate afaik is about £2.5-£3k for an average R-S reg LX. Bare in mind that average for a 5-6 year old car meand pretty much immaculate.
I cant, However find any deals like that in Colly at this time of night as Autotrader isn't working well.
Problem is that it has got to be a dealer as we need to trade in his old car as i would not sell it to a person in its condition (not that bad realy but still not right and don't mind not telling the dealer)
I also looked at a 1.1 punto on an s plate but it just seamed very tacky.
My other problem is this deadline so have to pick and go with one realy quickly.
the auto does look immaculate.

My dad had a "P" reg. Fiesta 1.25 Ghia auto.
It had a problem with stalling when you put it into drive. It is a known fault with them, so beware, as my dad was told that it needed a new "valve chest" in the auto box. If I remember correctly it was around £500 to fix it.
He didn't have it done and part exchanged it for a new Focus.
So if you do get an auto, try and find out if the gearbox has been moddified to cure the fault.
Will do. My brother would not be happy to get another duff box

You could allways try knocking the dealer down. You should be able to knock it down to near £3k for the LX hopefully. Negociate on the price of your Part X, though rather than price of the car. Allways remember - you can walk away to come back tomorrow. And dont trust a word the dealer says - only believe it if you see proof or have it in writing.
Repeating the thing about the gearbox.
They often stall going from Park to Drive, especially when cold. I believe the steel bands in the gearbox are a service replacement item  every 60-80k or so. and a duff gearbox is mega money to fix . It's a CVT not a normal auto.
However, if it's working well they are very good to drive. Much more efficient than a normal auto.
Unless you need an auto I'd avoid it.
Hi.
test drove the r reg fiesta 16v lx manual for £3495 with 30k miles.
Drove very well , brother quite liked it but ran out of time as he is off to the sudbury varse football thing.
Only issue it had was the rev counter did not work. (said it will if we buy it) its from a main ford dealer and has been serviced there from new.
Think he will go for it.
