Ive bought a wire off ebay to convert my speedo, but im being told that the instructions are wrong inside! So i dont wanna start cutting an soldering wires before i know exacly what im doing!

Does anyone have a picture of where the wires should be cut and soldered?

i cantt beleive that there isnt a guide with pictures explaining this! and if there is, then ide love to know where it is! lol

cheers guys

On my '94 180SX, the signal wire was the yellow and blue wire on the left-hand connector. I think that Kouki 180s, and S14s, are different, but assuming you're talking about the white car in your pic.

If you're still stuck, post photos and I'll try and help - I'm afraid I'm not aware of any existing photo guide and yes, the instructions were wrong on mine (!)

Yes same as mine, the instuctions were wrong. Got it working in the end tho! Ill post mine up too if needed!

Im going to make a guide after this! lol

For everyone's information, a much simpler way of doing this is to get a UK dash cluster, remove the speedo and swap it into the JDM cluster (keep your rev counter and everything else).

Works perfectly, I've done it on a PS13 and an RPS13 (both redtops) :)

Does that also remove the 180kmh (112mph) limiter ?

Honestly fitting a chip isn't complicated, you just need to know which wire is the signal wire. Probably not that much difference between the two methods, perhaps depending how cheaply and easily you can get a UK speedo.

Yeah you can swap it over, but then your messing around with the car reading different miles and stuff, ide rather just keep it all the same. Plus i have the wire now, i may aswell use it! lol

It doesnt remove the restriction i dont think.

Samohy, Carta, You guys got those pics? :)

Nope, it doesn't remove the limiter, but cutting the speed signal wire to the ECU does ;)

I just see swapping in the UK speedo as a much neater solution because you get the proper mph speedo face. If you buy a complete cluster you can also swap in the odometer and even clock it to read the correct mileage (converted from kms) if you're feeling anally retentive :wack:

Absolutely, I wasn't suggesting you use the other method, just thought I'd post for the benefit of anyone reading the thread and wanting to do the same :)

The converter units remove the limiter as a kinda side-effect.

Because they frig the speed signal to make it 0.625x (so kph becomes mph on the display), the speedo only sees 68mph when you're doing the the limit of 110mph. This effectively raises the speed limiter to 176mph :wack:
Cutting the wire removes the limiter too :wack: ...it just cocks up the factory boost control, but then so does the chip, just to a lesser extent.

Really?

So i get less boost?! :O :(

i swapped my cluster for a uk cluster but it gives a really unaccurate reading. like when im doin 30mph the speedo reads 38-39mph

Cheers for that jod!

Hope its nothing major Carta! lol U managed to get a pic anyways?

That's weird - when we swapped one into Jeff's Silvia it was spot on the same as my UK S13 (i.e. 10% over-read like they're supposed to). You know you can fine-tune it by playing with the pot on the back of the speedo itself :)

Ive got the same issue. Bought the chip and was going to put it in with the instructions, but the wires didn't match up. Don't want to start splicing wires that aren't correct. Do really need a diagram of some sort...

Anyone got a pic yet? :P

I've just left mine in kph:wack: I've remembered the essential mph speeds and what they are in kph.. simples;)

I also have left mine in kph :)

Have you de-limited yours Joe? It's one of the main reasons I got the Multichecker (cancels out the speed limit defender)

If you want to do some messing Nev I've got a UK S13 cluster you can try:)

anyone know if you can convert the JDM HUD dash to run MPH??

From speaking to John Benneeeeetttt on here it is possible but probably more hassle than it's worth. I've got the JDM HUD in mine and rather than mess with these sensitive Digidash units I've just left mine in km/h, the only downside I can see is they only display up to 180km/h (~112mph)

edit: Nev, I just found this (http://forums.freshalloy.com/showthread.php?t=111713) if it's any use to you?

I have an aftermarket ecu so that cancalled the limiter before I got it.

To be honest with you I very rarely go above 100 anyway and the car isn't slow

My car suffers a lot from a really aggressive differential, final drive must be trés low (or high? I can never remember which!). It explodes off the line but after say 70mph it bogs down.

Oh nah is ok Si but thanks for the offer mate :D

Its more about the limiter that i want to takee away to be honest :P

I wouldnt mind trying out your wheels tho once i get my kit fitted ;)

So what would happen if a speedo chip was put in? (as I believe it has been by previous owner)

Wayuk

thats basicly what ive bought,

a speedo chip, it converts your speedo to read in mph instead of km/h

Ive heard it gives you less boost tho, so i may have to buy a boost controller.

But it derestricts your engine at the same time so your not restricted to 112 mph

but no body is putting up a picture to show what wires need to be spliced into what wires!! lol

Hey mate, did mine today

I can confirm it is the yellow and blue wire  took some pics, albeit crap ones

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a102/Stark-100NX/180sx/Photo00.jpg

On that pic, the speedo sensor track is the one where the 4 screws are, its the right one with the japanese writing to the side of it, if you follow the track itll will take u to the top left of the plug socket which is the yellow and blue wire

In this pic, u can see which plug it is, its the black one and u can see the wire which i have cut and soldered the chip wires onto

All works fine, hope that helps :)
