Hi Guys
I thought I should start a thread seeing as I am now making some progress :)
Anyhow lets start off by collecting the car:-
Firstly me and Amy had to get the blooming thing, so or journey was as follows:-
Leave Hemel Hempstead at 8:15am
Pick up trailer from GT Towing in Hatfield at 8:30am
Leave GT Towing at 9am and set off to Insch in Aberdeenshire some 534 miles away.
Had the sat nav all programmed so set off:-
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=60490&stc=1&d=1236697928
Here is the route that the sat nav chose for us, never again  The sat nav instead of telling us to go to aberdeen and then up to insch, decided to lead us through the hills. This was most fun as all around us was about 6" of snow and snow was still falling :( by the time we hit this part of the journey it was about 8pm and pitch black. Anyhow we made it out of the hills alive just tired :wack:
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=60491&stc=1&d=1236697928
Anyhow how we finally got to our hotel in Insch at about 21:04, was a lovely place and seeing as the new car was in the same part of town, very convenient too :)
We then picked the car up the next morning at 8am, had breakfast and then decided to start our journey back, left at about 11am, this was better as we chose to head into Aberdeen, then follow the road down to Dundee and then perth. Although longer they were quicker roads. We arrived back in Hemel at about 21:00.
Anyhow enough of the journey here's the car:-

The spec is as follows:-
WESTFIELD SEi SPRINT/HILLCLIMB CAR ROLLING CHASSIS
WESTFIELD SEi NARROW BODY SPRINT/HILLCLIMB CAR ROLLING CHASSIS c/w REGISTRATION DOCUMENT (Q PLATE)
Winner of 2007 A6 Scottish Sprint Championship
CAT Motorsport wide track Front Suspension Kit
AVO fully adjustable coilovers all round (400lb Front Springs, 190lb Rear)
Polybushed wishbones all round
New QuickRack Steering Rack
Quaife ATB Limited Slip Diff (4.1) in Sierra Diff Case
Polybushed all round
Avon ACB10 Tyres (7" Front, 8" Rear) on 8x13" Superlite (Front) and 9x13" Minilite (Rear)

sabelt 3 inch 4 point harness
sparco flocked quick release steering wheel
Amber shift light
Fitted RAC MSA Approved Master Cutout Switch
Disk Brakes all round
1.1 Gallon Foam Filled Alloy Fuel Tank
Facet Fuel Pump
I have a few plans for it, 1st of the fuel tank will get changed as I can't see me getting very far with a gallon of petrol. The 2nd one will be the engine choice seeing as I know me 200's I thought a nice SR would suit it, the SR is lightweight, powerful and has great power delivery. I'll be looking installing it in a couple of months so here's to hoping it will fit :)
Also I thought seeing as we used the Skytrol to pick the car up (ran up there and back without one hiccup), a little video of his exhaust on the M6 toll:-

Gonna be awesome mate. I dont know much about kit cars, but always wanted one.

I've done a couple of little bits to it so far these are:-
Removed the 1 gallon petrol tank and Facet fuel pump as these aren't going to be man enough
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=61331&stc=1&d=1239722360
I had to trim the gearbox down slightly to stand a chance of getting it into the gearbox tunnel, this was about the maximum I could carry out. I'll need to cut the tunnel still though :( (You can see in the below pic, where some webbing used to be)
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=61330&stc=1&d=1239722347
Had a trial fit of a SR in the westfield, looks ok. I have extended the engine mount brackets too so am just waiting for some nylon and for me to finish the engine off and it in can go, also need to relocate the alternator to where the Air con pump would have been on a SR :) nothing major just minor tweaks :)
I also fitted a 180sx oil filter housing, the standard S14 one would hit the steering column :(
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=61327&stc=1&d=1239722360
Talking of the engine here is how it stands at the moment:-
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=61329&stc=1&d=1239722360
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=61328&stc=1&d=1239722360
Spec is:-
Standard Crank, Rods and Pistons.
New Hastings piston rings
ACL race bearings
Cometic 1.6mm HG
264 Crower cams,
Brian Crower uprated valve springs and titanium retainers
Brian Crower Stainless Steel valves (1mm oversized)
3 Angled Valve Seats
Bronze Silicon Valve Guides
Squish area's removed
Should be quite potent :)
You putting 400mm brakes and 19" wheels to accomodate them on it ? :wack:

Nice :D
Have you had any more luck getting the gearbox to fit?
Maybe a stupid Q but why are you going with 1mm oversized vqalves and then leave the rods, pistons standard? The bigger valves will probably loose you low rpm performance but gain you the potential at the top end which you will need uprated pistons and rods (ok maybe not the rods) to make the most of
Looking good dan, I hope you put a top mount turbo kit on it though :)

This is going to be good. I've allways thought the sr would be a good choice for this type of car.
I was down at re-worx the other week and they had a 330ish bhp cosworth turbo powered caterham on the rollers. Looked
So you going to be taking your customers out for passenger rides?
you dont hang about. going to be a fun car. should have rb'd it though

Just a quick one.
I noticed you have re worked the squish in the head yet you are still using a 1.6mm gasket ?
What was youur reason for removing the squish ?

Too be honest it's only the inlet side which has removed, just to reduce the chance of det :) shouldn't effect C/R too much :)

Hay Dan, looks like sweet starting point with that chassis! and at this rate you'll have it finished for the summer. I've currently got a Luego with a Sr20 lump in it. Even with 250-260 its a bloody handfull so yours will be mental. I have a thread here if you need any ideas
http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=233011&highlight=luego
i had to cut the chassis quite abit to get the engine back, aswell as trimming the box like you have.
Good engine choice though. better than the typical Cossi.
Ps im Only In Leighton Buzzard so if you need anything drop me a pm ;)

Whens Prescott James! oh BTW bit late now but i should have told you about last saturday. All the Dax boys went to Shakesperes raceway for the fastest Caterham shootout.
The quickest was Duncans hyabusa Turbo'd Rush. 11.4 iirc I olny managed a 12.7@109 ;)

Little update from Sundays work, and the engine is in (well mostly) :)
Had to relocate the alternator to the exhaust side, easy enough just knock up a bracket to accept the alternator:-

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/dans13/Alternator1.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/dans13/Alternator2.jpg
Fitted the flywheel:-
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/dans13/flywheelon.jpg
Then came the fun task of fitting the gearbox down the tunnel :indiff: anyhow after a bit of chopping it went it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/dans13/gearboxin.jpg
Gear shifter location:-
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/dans13/gearshift.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v618/dans13/gearshift2.jpg
Then the engine had to be plonked in (thanks to evilchap and veefS13 for turning up at the crucial point or mating the gearbox to the engine :), )

Will keep you updated.

Nice project Dan  how low does the engine sit from the ground?
Dan@DB-Power
24-04-2009, 10:26
At the moment the sump is about an inch from the ground  planning on lifting the engine a little higher over the weekend though :)
Dan
It still looks high?? Are you going to need a bonnet bulge/raise the bonnet at all?
You should make a kit for this when your done:D
SR'd 7:smitten:
wow thats gone in quick, looks very snug in there, amost like your going to have to make a custom inlet ;)
top mount turbo should help with space too i should immagine,
id be tempted to leave the engine as low as you can but cut the sump up a bit and make it wider to make up for the lost oil capacity.
does look very tall in there, you sure its going to fit lol
jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus....thats gonna be a handful...
Good luck mate...:wack: :D
rb30 still in bits but i have all the other bits, pumps and arp studs to get it going . no time though.
what colour is it going to be?

It's going to need a bulge/vent on the nose cone which will lead into a bulge on the bonnet :)
Will have fun with fibreglass soon.

I've work out that a 30mm bulge should cover it, but it's amazing how tall the SR is :wack:
I think the inlet will be ok, but I will have to chop the throttle face off the plenum and just angle it more towards the engine, minor work though :)
The sump is currently about 6cm off the ground, (was an inch). I'm going to see how it copes, but I think the whole car needs raising as the chassis is only 7cm off the ground and most speed bumps are 10cm, I have a feeling I will bottom out :(

Hay Dan,
Looks good so far
Are you planning on running an intercooler or chargecooler. My engine's gettin bloody hot at the moment. Bit of a knightmare with a chargecooler rad in front of the engine rad.
Also with all that air coming in the front the bonnet lifts because the air can't get out fast enough. The Dax boys are all fitting these side pannels...
http://home.wanadoo.nl/daxrush/images/DAX-RUSH-MC.jpg
just an idea. Im going to try it on mine soon.

I'm going intercooler at the moment, but I have thought about under bonnet temps, I will have a few vents though but I do like those side vents
Also that converter you made for the SR20 prop to Sierra diff, you wouldn't happen to have a drawing of that would you? or am able to make one? Seen the sierra's props and they don't look that strong :(
Dan
FlansS14
30-04-2009, 19:34
Hi Dan. I just took the sierra prop and 200 prop to an engineering place near me and they knocked It up. It looks like ur engine is a little further fwd so u may need to fit a longer spacer. Still cheaper than £260 for a custom prop!!!!
I take it the car is IRS with a LSD ;)
I'm also going to mount the air filter outside the body. It gets way to hot under there to be sucking in air!
Jeffers_S13
08-05-2009, 10:12
For the prop, just send the nose of a 200 prop to Autoprop, tell them the distance from the output shaft face in the box to the face of the diff flange and ask them to put a cossie UJ on the back. Only cost me £120 for mine, it hasnt broken yet :smash:

I have the narrower S14 five-speed gearbox mated to the S15 donk. Diff is Cosworth Sierra.
The standard Westfield V8 bonnet has the bulge in the right place to clear the cam cover if you want to go down the path of a standard (but probably expensive) part. You can see the custom inlet plenum necessary to fit under the rest of the bonnet.
Exhaust plumbing is custom with a Garret T28 ball bearing turbo connected to a GReddy boost controller.
I have a pre-rad intercooler and the car goes OK for temperature. I was a bit worried heading into summer but I had no dramas at all.
Regards
Jamie

wow, there are more SX powered sevens than i thought...
i need to sort out my cooling. It got abit hot round Mallory Park last weekend and wee'd all over my shoes (the exp tank is on the bulkhead) :D
i also need a new exhaust as it got that hot the pot rivits and end cap melted.

SR20DET is the engine of choice for at least one "Seven" brand, based in Adelaide, South Australia - Puma (http://www.pumaclubman.com/). BTW, we tend to call them a "Clubman" rather than a "Seven" down here in reference to a CAMS race category which this style of car dominated many moons ago.
I know the guy who built my car had a few goes at getting the plumbing right before it worked - he blew at least one head gasket getting it right. Do you think your problem is a lack of heat transfer or plumbing / water flow?
I'm indebted to my builder for my tasty maintenance-free exhaust. It's 3", custom built and all stainless with a built in cat. It cost a fortune, apparently, but it should last forever. It's got that tea-stained look from the heat, but I kinda like that

i think im not getting enough air through the rad, im making the chargecooler rad smaller (never had a problem with inlet temps) and put the fan behind the rad (pulling) then duct the nose cone. Plan B will be in place for this weekend :D

What diff are you running? The usual Sierra one? I have a Cosworth Sierra unit in my Westie (3.69:1 or there abouts, I think) and I reckon it is a tad too short. It could definitely handle something longer.
Are you still running stock boost?
I find tiptoeing around town to keep the noise down and the tyres gripping gives me cramps in my calf muscles quite often - a good problem to have, but it is tiresome on occasions.
I'm sure your car and Chris's Striker will be putting the frighteners lots of more expensive machinery.
Regards
Jamie
Like it Dan :D
How loud is that?!
Quite a bonnet bulge :)
I must measure up my spare CA... I wonder how much room I have to play with given the compressor outlet goes upward... although it is still bottom mount... hmmm, stuff to ponder.

Hi Jamies
It's 4.1 Quaife ATB diff so pretty sh1t hot :)
Yeah I hear you about noise and controllability around town, it's bad enough on our driveway at work, especially as I'm running a RPS Max Street clutch which doesn't give a light pedal to say the least :wack:
It's still running standard actuator at present but I'm happy with that as i can get used to it and then up the boost :)
Hopefully should be able to MOT it this week/early next week :D

It's probably slightly louder than a S14 with a single box system, but I didn't build it to be timid :D

this thing is quick, and well built, its a testement to dans complete inability to understand when something is hard :-P
I reckon this thing will make me giggle as much as the Skytrol did :D
Dan
if you decide to change the diff ratio, id be interested in the 4.1. I have a quaife with a 3.9:1 built up to swap or a spare 3.62:1 ratio CWP or will part with cash, your choice.
Craig
Dan
A 4.1 - and I thought my 3.65 was short!
I have a Exedy Sports Organic clutch (http://www.exedy.com.au/SingleSportsSeries.aspx) in mine and an S13 flywheel (S15 mill, S14 cogbox). Like yours, the pedal is heavy and the take up is rather severe.
There's a GReddy Profec B Spec 2 EBC (http://www.greddy.com/products/display/?Category=electronics&SubCategory=51) controlling my boost. It's an OK device, but really needs to be set up on a dyno unless you are prepared to tweak the settings yourself and monitor the digital readout while driving at WOT in third gear (as recommended).
I have the EBC organised to give 10 psi on LO, and 14 psi on HI. I mostly get around on LO - it's quick enough and I have some concern for my head gasket at 1 bar (14psi) although most people I've talked to say it will be OK.
There's also a stealthy Turbosmart Plumback BOV (http://www.turbosmartonline.com/index.php?id=44) in the system.
You wouldn't know my car is a turbo. The only slight giveaways are the three inch exhaust and the intercooler (which, to look at, could be the radiator). I don't have a boost gauge . The EBC head unit is velcro'ed to the scuttle ;). The stealth BOV limits the noise on change up to a satisfying ch-ch-ch-ch .
How will you go for noise at MOT in the UK? Is there a dB regulation at a set rpm? A driveby test? Or do you just have a restrictor plate for the occasion?
Regards
Jamie

Same with mine, the pick up is just amazing no lag just go :D although it's very noisy and when it pops it bangs like a gun :wack:
over here the MOT is quite good on kit cars (Q plate ones) like mine, no noise tests, no emissions to really worry about. I don't think I even need to run a bonnet :wack:
The main area where noise comes into play is for track use, for this I have a bung that I can place in the tailpipe to keep it down
I drove it on the road the other day to the MOT station, and it's weird on the road. Things I've got to watch out for is when I shift down a gear the rear wheels lock slightly, this may be down to the diff design
Also if the engine dies say if the revs full to quickly I can't bump start it in gear, again justs locks up the rear tyres :wack:
Other than that it's fast and gave me a huge grin :D
Looks like heel and tow will be the order of the day as the car is so light. Are you using a standard heavy flywheel?
Dan@DB-Power
28-09-2009, 14:32
Hi Martin
nah cyn-r-g aluminium flywheel :D I think that why it revs so well, the only belt it has is the alternator and water pump, so no strain of the power steering and also no heavy flywheel :)
Ah ok, imagine how much easier it would lock the wheels up with a heavy flywheel ;)
I've been in a few muscle car's with original spec tyres and they can churp the back wheels just by letting off the throttle! (manual gearboxes)

good news! when you out and about in it.. are you planning to attend any late season shows.
As for the locking what tyres you running. if them Avon's have been sat a while they have a tendancy to go hard and then there is noooooo grip ;)
Im running R888's there sweet after you get a little heat into them ;)
Dan@DB-Power
29-09-2009, 10:28
Yeah I might do, but I may wait until next year when the car is fully finished :)
What wheels/tyre sizes are you running on yours out of interest?
FlansS14
29-09-2009, 12:28
Im running 15x9 on the rear with zero offset (its wide) with 235/50/15 tyres. My diff is a LSD from the XR4x4 3.6 IIRC and that hits the limiter in 4th at 108mph but cruises nicely at 80
yours may be a little undergeared with the 4.1 diff
Mines off the road for the winter now... although im still on the look out for another track day ;)

It's road legal :D
All MOT'd and Taxed on Saturday and been hooning it around over the weekend. All I can say is wow :D
It's so lively and facking quick. I'm going to be using it for the next couple of weeks until the bad weather comes, also may go up to Bedford autodrome near the end of the month and see what it and I am capable of

not much of an update apart from the fact I had to rip the engine out on Sunday due to a oil leak at the rear. Turned out the rear crack sill had a rip in it :( anyhow all fixed again and looking forward to driving it :)
Might see if I can do a couple of track days this year yet :)
Only given 1 passenger ride officially so far and he said it's faster than his mates 600bhp R33 GTR :D

A little update
went for a jolly with my mate on his CBR600, and I can now officially say that my westfield is a bike killer :D
Only just pulled away but just is more than enough for me, especially as I'm only on about 10psi of boost and have another 18 psi of where that came from :D
Went on about a 100 mile journey with some lovely twisty roads, was a great day.
Only 3 mis-haps occurred the 1st being running out of petrol :wack:
2nd being loosing one of my wheel arches :( I'll have to buy another pair now :wack:
3rd being loosing my sunglasses whilst checking my blind spot :( I really likes those glassed too :(
Anyhow more to come next year I think, now that Winter is coming.

Word of warning, don't race a gsxr1000 with power comander.. My mate made me look
stupid lol although he did say it was 600 pace.
What's the grip level like on yours?

Dude!!!!!!! Where did you get the 180sx oil filer housing?
I have a Kit car with a CA18det & it hits the steering coloum! Im guessing the 180sx was off the Ca18?
Been hunting everywhere cant get hold of one

Dan, that is cool-as. Bet it goes well? - i'd love to do one of these as I had an Seight a few years ago but sold it when my son was born.
Do you have any pics of the finished bonnet? from the earlier shots it looks like it would need a good few extra inches of height to clear the SR20

i need a bigger tank now... cruising its only 100miles to a tank.
im still running the std oil housing as the water cools the oil iirc i used a slightly shorter filter and it clears fine ;)

I don't think they did one for the CA :(, but what you can do is remove the whole oil cooler and I think you can put an oil filter straight onto the block :)
Dan

nah. no fuel gauge. Also being ambitious with trying to make it somewhere further than my fuel tank had in it :wack:

Yeah it's facking quick, we'll find out how quick at the end of the month. Hopefully going on the Bedford circuit :) As for bonnet, it's not finished yet  it will get there :)

I think I'm on about 60 miles to a tank (about 30 litres) :wack: but I give it hell
I'm going to add an oil cooler this weekend, as when I rag it the oil gets so thin you can hear the cams :(
Went out in this tonight :D
Dan gave me some glasses to wear. What's really apparant once Dan get's in to second gear is how much wind really picks up, but by the time he's in 5th even with the glasses you can't see much. It's also really good for styling hair :wack: You have to concentrate on breathing through your nose as you probably have air blow out your arse if you open your mouth.
It's fapping fast! Mid range is really impressive, overtaking car's is done in a second or 2. Thing I think it's a bit deceiving, because when your in the car you're aware of how fast it is, but because it's all so well done it doesn't feel too shocking as it's all under good control.
Perspective - I drove my car shortly afterwards and it's then when it dawned on me just how quick this westfield is. It's hard when in the car to compare it against anything else you've been in as it's so different, but it's so obvious when you get in to another car just how ridiculous this machine is.
Anyway Dan, turn the boost up more, you can never have too much power ;)
was you 'moust' blowing in the wind Mart?
amazing how much difference a lack of weight makes, everyting is just so much better, brakes, steering feel, handling and of course performance. all modern cars are getting so lardy, a 'lightweight' Scooby is 1200kg which is probably near twice Dans westy, the old 'coffin dodgems' take some beating :)
Dan took my for a spin in this last night aswell and I've never been in a car that accelerates that fast.
It honestly feels like your going into warp speed. Like Martin I found I couldn't see much once the car was pretty much out of 1st gear, then after that I struggled to breath so had to cover my mouth to stop the air rushing at me.
Sitting there with a red hot turbo in front of me then feeling that pure acceleration was utterly fantastic.
The good bit of fun was on the way home though, me and Dan left together and I was in third gear at about 4000rpm so on full boost. I planted the throttle and made about 1ft maybe 2ft lead on Dan before he reacted and planted it. Needless to say his car instantly overtook meet and pretty much left me for dusk.
Mines running about 260bhp so about the same as Dans but probably 3 times the weight.
Thanks for the ride Dan.

Yeah was a great night :)
The westfield didn't put a beat out of place and I wasn't too cold either
The only thing now is the boost needs to be turned up, and after Bedford off the road for winter and time to sort out the bodywork, wiring and general tidying up :)
As for fuel, none :D took 2 petrol cans with me just in case

There the solution to the missing sunnies issue! And for that matter the aforementioned breathing, stones flicked up and so on ;) Full-face helmets FTW!
Is there going to be a bonnet, Dan? Or are you leaving the engine exposed for everyone to see your package and to threaten people with obliteration on the highways and byways? :wack:

Id like to help you with that Ben if you require any assistance. Anything to help a man whos done so much for yourself! Dan, you fancy a key swap one eve with a 420bhp Noble? Im itching to have a go, and I think dad would enjoy it and would bring the Noble up!
I've been away from the forum for a while, but it's great to see you're on the road, Dan - and freaking out forum members
With winter coming your way, maybe you can get around to the jobs that get in the way of driving time (like the fitting a bonnet and removing those cable ties holding the front guard on - lol!)
I can't believe you run without a screen at all. That helmet must cop a fair battering from bugs & rocks.
We've just kicked into summer down here so I joined a couple of other Westfields and went for a 200km blat in the bush on some twisty roads today. Had a great time. I love my third gear!
I threw some money at my car over winter. It is pretty much how I want it now apart from a new dash I'm planning.

I was going to call all you 'I can't breath' types pussies - but then I noticed the lack of windscreen :wack:
I still find it funny that my own passengers complain they can't see/breath despite me having a full sized screen and them actually fitting behind it (unlike me :o)
That must be awesome though Dan, hope I find myself somewhere you can take me out in it it at some point
Does it have an LSD or is it a full-on tyre smoker? :D
If only I could make mine that fast without it having to sound like an SR ;) :p
If only I could make mine that fast without it having to sound like an SR ;) :p
After Dan took me out in it I watched him take 30PSI out in it and the noise was incredible. It's weird as it didn't sound anything like an SR at all, just sounded like a proper race car steaming down the main straight.
I wish my 200 sounded like it.

Yeah it's off the road for the winter now, took the engine and gearbox out of it today due to gearbox failure :(
I've made a rough bonnet which will get made into a nice FRP version :)
also going to tidy it up alot, and possibly next year sell it. I'm really wanting a TVR Cerbera at the moment :D so the Westfield may fund this :)
Anyhow will upload some more pics as soon as they happen, at the moment I have this to finish by Spring and my 800SX to finish :D

Sorry to hear about your gearbox, Dan. BTW, What in the world is an 800SX? An 8-litre engine shoe-horned into a 200SX shell???

That's a hell of a nice Westy you have there, FMG. A bit of genuine automotive history even, it being pre-lit and all. Good luck with the sale (or get yourself a bigger shed and keep it :)).
There's no way that my video will look anything like that one of FMG's. I'll be gaffa taping the old Sony HandyCam to the roll bar and seeing how that comes out. Fortunately the camera has an external mic socket so I maybe I'll be able to pick up the dulcet tones of the 'zorst without too much interference from the wind.
It might take me a few days - work / family will intrude until the weekend most likely.
