View Full Version : New speed camera's due out soon!
This is a copy of an email I had from a friend today - just thought i'd let everyone know!
Just a short message to inform everybody that uses the M4 motorway, ive been given this imformation by somebody who istalled the cameras so be carefull.
As of the 14th July 2003 information boards CONTAINING SPEED CAMERAS that calculate average speed over 1 mile sections will go live on the M4 (Wales). These cameras continually re-asses your speed and are linked to the DVLA etc and can issue fines / points. They have been on trial for a while but now they go live.

They're on the side of the motorway and stick out over the hard shoulder (?and inside lane?) They're big so you can't miss em. Why don't the police realise that accidents on motorways (I must empahasise that I'm not talking about around town) are caused but people changing lanes without looking, or swirving because they are playing with the stereo. Speed simply accentuates the accident, but you're pretty bugggred at 70mph anyway.

Couldn't someone design a hinged backplate that tilts the plates out of view at speeds over 70mph, ever by a manual or an automatic switch? I have seen them on cars elsewhere, but I don't really know how they work. You could just fit the plates normally for MOT etc.

Plate thats hinged at the bottom, and at the top theres a pully letting the plate drop at speeds, and pulling it up right when it needs to be!!
Either way, that strech of motorway, between Cardiff and bristol isn't the most suited for speeding, 70mph is probably fast enough. Its not your average streach of Motorway, tis twisty and built up!
I think it'll be tight if they do it on normal motrorway though, like the M3 grrr!
