View Full Version : Skyline differences
I met a Jap guy last night who has a very nice R32 GTS-t in standard form, with a hiper muffler and thats all :) (oh, and a GT-R badge next to the GTS-t one)
He was full of shit though, and I couldnt wait to get away from him, before I started laughing.
I don't know much about these cars at all, but when he showed us the engine (me and chiffs) he went on to say it was a 2.5 litre unit producing 290 bhp and 180 MPH  It said RB20DET on the bulkhead, and looked completely standard. I asked what work he had done to get 290 bhp, and he didn't know, said his mate did it :)
Anyway, can anyone tell me the difference between all the skylines, I know the GTR is the daddy, and the difference between the R32-3-4 but thats it :(
I'm not sure about the earlier ones, but I know the R33 and R34 GT-R at least have the RB26DETT (2.6 litre twin turbo)and are 4WD, the GTS-t has the RB25DET (2.5 litre turbo) and is RWD.
Apart from that I'm as clueless as you are. Sounds like this guys car was only a 2 litre to me tho. I think it'll probably be the same as Mittomatto's, I think his has the RB20DET :)

R32 came with RB20DE, RB20DET, RB25DE and RB26DETT.
R33 came with RB25DET and RB26DETT
R34 came with RB25DET NEO and RB26DETT.
There may have been other engines but these are the important ones, anything else will be shit.:)
Theres a guy in Colchester with an R32 RB20DE, he reckons its doing over 200bhp with just an exhaust and airfilter. I think hes got confused with having an RB20DET. Bless.:D

New Age ... it has a different fuel setup (top feed) and a different turbo exhaust vane material.
There are also Series 1 and Series 2 R33 RB25DET's ... for a swap you want the Series 1 if you plan to keep the stock turbo.

I hate people like this, the other night we were talking to another 200 owner, and he started spouting about how much work he'd had done, his mate did it all for him for just '30 quid' but the work would have cost you over £800 if you had to pay for it..... he then went on to claim he topped out at 160mph and could blow anything away.
He'd never heard of the SXOC btw, which is a good thing!
Cheers guys :)
I had another bloke come up to me the other day, and ask "scuse me mate, have you got a bleed valve on that?"
Duno, struck me as funny, thats why I laughed at him :D
