Been on the beta test of Planetside (http://planetside.station.sony.com/) for about a week or so now, it really is amazing. At one point last week there was more than 2000 people on each side (3 sides in total) all battling against each other :eek:

It does get a little choppy at times, but then again that's the point of betas innit :) They're playing about with load balancing at the moment.

Just had another go and there must have been about 300 people all around me firing over onto a mountain range :o

oh yeah, it doesn't help that the servers are all based in the USA hehe :D

nah it's not very easy to spawn camp as the objective is to get hold of these compounds, the spawn tubes are underground and fairly deep in the compounds. Meaning that anyone that can get past the rest of the people in the area are usually pretty low on health by the time they reach teh spawn tubes :)

It's pretty well balanced actually tbh, suprisingly so for a game still in beta :)

The server's wont link up, and over 3400 people on the current servers they are lagging to hell.

1.33gb, then when you first connect you'll get the latest patch as well, so that's another few mb.

It's not bad, but you can die so easily when an entire squad happens upon you.

FilePlanet Subscription is WELL worth it if you have BB and are into gaming. You get loads of betas to play with and no waiting for downloads. You can guarantee if a patch or conversion is released, it'll be on FP, not to mention movies of games etc.

It's strange, but the beta is coming to an end and some features haven't been implemented yet. The most obvious omission is the Platoon. I guess they are just going to stick it in the release and say "there you go".

I think im in the process of downloading (I found an online installer for the game and i applied to Planetside etc... Seems you have to be approved to be a Beta tester? And im waiting on a confirmation email on wether ive been accepted? Did you guys have to do this too?

If not, i'll just wait till the game comes out and buy it..

Same here, I signed up to be a beta tester, but no news if i have been accepted.

Heard rumors that beta testing is closing soon, due to the imment lanuch.

Oh well, sure will be buying this game: it looks so much like Halo but bigger, better and lots more people!

well,
I got a 200k odd self-launching app, that downloaded the 1.3gb of files while I slept. Sony Station or something it called itself. It's the pre-planetside front end where you enter your station name + password. It's also how Planetside updates itself - you can't run the game until it has checked your files against the servers and found no new versions.

You pay £5 for signing up to Fileplanet, one of the benefits being an instantly available beta trial of this game.
Sony don't offer it because it's not free. You either have to wait for it to come out May 20th, or sign up for the beta test and hope they accept you...

Basically you chose a side, Terran Republic, VR and someone else, you create a character as part of that side. You'll spawn in a sancturararary, where you can do some training and learn what style you want to play in simulators.

When you've found your ideal mix you put some certification points into your chosen dude, ie: big gun man, put points in that.

Then you can go to some warpgates to some battle areas.

In the battle areas are a load of bases, the point is to capture them for your side. This is where the massive battles take place, as theres a linked way of capping them.

Best thing to do is to try and join a group of people :)

More people you and your team kill, the more experience you get, and the more points you amass :)

OK, i finally got it downloaded and now a HUGE patch is coming down.. Should be done at 4am it says. Im going to bed!

I ended up queing for it because for some reason i couldnt use the dedicated servers for downloading. Needless to say ill be cancelling my subscription to fileplanet, they suck. Managed to stop it timing out by leaving AIM running. Seems it was my internet connection shutting down somehow..

OK! Im in! Had a go this morning and my PC runs it ok i guess, but it does get choppy sometimes. Im running lower detail than usual, im gonna try and lower it more to keep it smooth..

I want one of those robot suits! I got my ass handed to me by this guy in one, like 3 times in a row. I killed him first and it musta upset him... ehhe.. It is a good game it would seem, i need to do the training really and sort my weapons out..

So, anyone wanna provide me with info on Squads? How about making an SXOC Squad?

Could well do. Use EMERALD server as it's on the East Coast and the ping is almost 100ms quicker.

I'll be on tonight if the servers are up from when I get home until ... I dunno. If you wanna speak direct to someone, use "/tell". you literally start typing and it'll autoswitch to the chat box with the slash. So for example "/tell andyf where's this squad then muppet"

Oh btw I play as Terran Republic.

And Pazza, the latest patch has DECREASED framerate by a small amount, the news/info is in the Planetside / Sony Launcher program which says they've done it for better error reporting. Don't worry it'll be back to full speed next week probably.
