...does there seem to be a Max Power tendancy creeping into the board in the past couple of weeks or so?

Maybe!

I was wondering if this was indicative of a shift in the perception of the 200. Maybe now that they are getting cheaper and cheaper to buy, a different type of buyer is begining to move in:( :( .

Could just be that as we have over 2000 members there's bound to be a difference in perceptions of course.

Skip, you're right about the F&F thread I think. Also that thread about ourtrunning plod, didn't help.

Neon lighting anyone? :(

The F&F thread was funny, but as you say the one about outrunning Plod was definetley a Lax power type thing

Just wondering... there seems to be this unspoken agreement on this board to never be in any way nasty about other users ('cos we're all so nice) but... doesn't a lot of the 'MaxPower' cr@p seem to have come from one particular source, recently?

Tis only a few recent threads that are max flower'ish, and they get the piss taken out of them enough, although I dont think some of them know it.

Why no create a new area for these peeps... "All Show No Go Posts For Those Who Can't Be Arsed To Use The Search Button And Really Believe Buying A Fancy Car Gets You Laid"

Might be a bit long tho :)

can't you do a survey when they sign up? "Do you read/subscribe to revs, max power..."

But then again, the board is called the SXOC. So surely if they own a 200sx, they should be allowed in, even if they are twats.

Gary

It's not fair, I haven't even got a 200sx but I was shown the light and thinking about an s13. If the max pow... (I daren't speak it's name for I will grow a wing on my head... ) community get their mitts on the s13 then the chances of getting one are minimal. :(.

I like this board because people are more interested in helping and there wasn't a feeling that you had to paint your car bright green and put an ironing board on the back to be accepted. Plus even though I don't have a car (D'oh) I have learned a vast amount about one of my favorite cars now that I have spent time here, and I pray that the nova boys go to where they belong... (don't know where, it's probably Gt. Yarmouth sea front).

It should be renamed Max Spoiler :p

There does seem to be a 'Nova' feeling to certain posts lately but i guess you have too expect it as there are around 2500 members and the 200 is becoming known as the performance bargain especially with S13's available for well under 2K. Guess we just have to grin and bear it.

I couldnt care less, a lot of you forget what this clubs all about - cars and good people.

I had a good day today at the meet, and those are the people I want to know in the club, and so will help out. The rest who have some sort of chip/attitude problem on here I just ignore, its not positive for the club at all.

Its not snobbishness that is the problem. Its taste, or lack of and a pride in our cars.

I have had my S13 for nearly 4 years now and have made an effort to tastefully modify it. My idea is to make the car into what Nissan could have done if they had a 'special vehicles' department.

So it annoys the shit out of me when someone buys a 200SX and slaps loads of flashy, gaudy, 'look at me' type things all over it (silly graphics, neons, stupid huge alloy wings pet hate, etc) in an effort to be 'cool' and follow the current and quite horrible trend of 'Fast and Furious' styling. It just shows a complete lack of effort on their part and ruins the good name of 200SX.

Another pet hate (and this might offend quite a few people on here I'm afraid, soz) is owners who are determined to increase the performance of their cars but are like sheep and just buy whatever everyone else has but have no idea why they are buying a particular item or what it actually does.

If they have made the effort to find out why its of a benefit and what it does then fair enough but to buy something just because youve been told it will work shows that all you have is a big wallet and no real interest in cars.

All IMHO opinion of course.

Thats a fair oppinion, but not everyones.

I see it differently (those who get offended by anything I say, please close your ears now). I see a car and go "hmm, that looks good... apart from THAT." And I change it.
One reason why I dont feel a major urge to uprate the power on my sx just yet, cos it goes like th clappers :)
I do however want some alloys, want some other nice bits and bobs, and i want to feel good in my car, as im sure everyone else wants to too. I also understand "each to their own". Im not gonna slate someone who wants a triple wing on their car, just as i wouldnt slate someone who wants to keep theres standard (or restore it to factory) - its up to them, and I respect them whatever they decide.

HOWEVER, slapping neons on and some stickers, doesnt make you the Don. Respect where its due my friends, and a roll of eyes where its not. Some people are too keen to make their oppinion the same as everyone elses, but that just isnt possible.

peace people.

I think some people will want to research into what they are doing, why some things work, why some things don't, what is going to work the best etc.

Others are happy to let other people make the decision for them, and either copy what others have done, or hand it over to the likes of SE or whoever to do the work.

Although, its better to do the former, and you actually learn more yourself (I have to say I've learnt a hell of a lot since first coming across the Coolboard two years ago) I have to say I understand both approaches..

I mean Steve you're pretty knowledgeable on cars for sure. But say you needed to improve the performance of your PC would you research every last detail of what PC component would perform best and build something to suit? Or would you buy the latest mega deal from PC World? Same thing really :)

Hmmm, sorry Steve think some of this is a bit daft, IMHO. This is supposed to be the bulletin board for the 200SX owners club. I though the whole purpose of an owners club and forum was to help members/readers to share information and provide help.

Some people don't/won't understand why a modification improves performance but does it really matter ? At the end of the day most people that read the forum are here because they're interested in the 200SX and if they want their car to go faster isn't it better that they should go for a tried and tested modification which works rather than piss their money away on an unusual one that doesn't. After all if they had big wallets they could just go out and buy a Skyline/Supra or similar.

As I've found from my own experiences with the E-manage over the last year, sometimes its a pretty bad idea to try new things. I've been lucky and the problems have been resolved but I could easily have blown £300 on something that was completely useless.

There are also a few people on here who get the hump when somebody else buys something that they've got on their car i.e a spoiler, a set of wheels etc.
To these people I'd say, fecking grow up !! These parts aren't custom, one off parts generally and most people fit things because they like them, not just because somebody else has got one. They should be flattered that somebody liked what they'd done enough to want the same thing

I agree about the Max Power factor that seems to be appearing on the board and theres also a lot of S13 vs S14 crap now too. It really would be a shame if the forum dropped to the standards of some of the other well know forums but at the same time the SXOC forum has always been pretty tolerant and it would be a shame to see that change for the worse too.

Heh, no, I wouldnt go to PC World, I'd ask someone that knows what they are talking about like some of you chaps on here.:)

Errr, yeah, it is and that is the purpose of the BB, what I'm saying (maybe could have worded it better) is that people should at least know why an item is recommended and should learn a bit about the cars.
As you say, it doesnt really matter but I just feel that when it comes to tuning a car it could save people a lot of potential problems if they knew what they are doing to the cars. For example, we know that running one of these at 30psi is a bad thing but if you get an uneducated owner who has only read magazines with R5 GTTs and Cossies running that sort of boost they will presume that this is the norm.

I'm afraid I'm one of these people. I do feel flattered to a point but it still niggles when I have spent a long time deliberating over what spoiler or wheel to have, take the risk not having seen it on an S13 before only to have someone see my car and decide there and then that they are going to buy the same. It is annoying when I do something original and not off the shelf and it gets copied. I guess thats the way it goes though.
At the end of the day I like to keep my car as individual as possible. To me that is the whole point of styling modifications.

I agree about the Max Power factor that seems to be appearing on the board and theres also a lot of S13 vs S14 crap now too.

Not bloody wrong, there are a couple of main culprits, one from each side and there are a few more joining in. Personally I fing it boring and annoying when a thread gets hijacked and ruined by it.

It really would be a shame if the forum dropped to the standards of some of the other well know forums but at the same time the SXOC forum has always been pretty tolerant and it would be a shame to see that change for the worse too.

If this BB ends up like some of the forums you mean then I'm off. As you say, this forum is generally pretty tolerant. I must admit I have been getting a bit arsey with some people recently, I think its just that some of the stuff is getting boring having read it a million times in the last 3 1/2 years, hence the 'search police' thing.

group hug:p ;)

I think this thread has brought the max power out in use all ( the rowdyness of a 16 year old :) ). I understand what everyone is saying and do agree with mambastu. But wouldn't it be a bit shite if everyone car looked the same, to me modding is all about get the car how you want it to look (i prefer subtle bodykits and not F+F stuff). I dont think we (as a club) hate he maxpower boys it just there silly stupid mentallitys and attitutes ie i can beat a ferrari, 120mph out of 3rd etc. I know a few people on he have give the kids respects and just before they have left them for dust, so its important not to tar all 'kids' with the same brush.

I personally would like the 200 to stay out of the 'kids' hands for

A- very fast car and can be deadly in the wet which have caught many a more experience drivers out
B- they will push up the insurnace premiums
C- some drivers will give the 200 a bad name ie you can't tell me all vtr drivers are twatty boy racers as most of them i see are drove by old people and girls, but when i seem them i think what this nob gonna do.........as they say sh1t sticks

RANT

Something is happening to this board and I don't think I like it.

When I first joined about a year ago this forum was heavily technically bias and I've learnt an absolute shite-load in that time. I don't think new joiners are going to get the same benefit unless they're genuinely interested and read through the old threads (like I did). It seems to have moved away from that and more towards styling. Now I don't have anything against styling but I don't want this board to turn into a Max-Power style shite-fest. some recent members seem to cause more harm than good and it winds me up.

I know I've said things out of line / when grumpy, but it just annoys me to see it being watered down so much!!

Mmm.

I think you'll find this has stopped in the last couple of weeks because it has been done to death. AFAIK nobody seriously believed that one car was better than another. It was just a bit of harmelss fun.

Perhaps this isn't a board to have fun on :(

Could we just add one to the list?
Picture this:

Nova + big bore zorst + 3 spoke alloys.

No the guy may not be an actual twat, but he does get called it originally.

However, (and no offence here Mark) guys ragging the bollocks of escorts makes me cringe. We have an 'escort posse' next door, all with baseball caps.

Again, escorts are also driven by my missus' mother so no you cant generalise...

My point? I think you can spot these types a mile off, and they can drag down a make+model.

I'd buy a ford in the US, but not here - not even a good one, its got that badge on it thats related to front wheel spinning baseball cap wearing numptys. The mustang range in the US however gets me very moist :D

Am I the only person that finds the odd bit of s13/s14 bashing still amusing? Sure it gets boring if its on every thread, but the odd bit of jestful bashing lightens the mood a bit I think. Anyway whilst I drive an s13, I think that the s14a is a superior car - mainly because its newer, adn I really, really want one. just a shame I got to sort out my current car first.

No, I still find it amusing. As you say, unless it's on every thread. I find myself constantly wanting an S13 as well :( I really wish I could own both cars. They both have a lot going for them.

Afraid I have also noticed it, even though i'm new to posting I have read the forum for quite a while and there has been an increase in 'max powerness' of late :(

Shame really, I aspire to be able to get my own 200sx, mainly due to the great community that can be associated with it and the fact that it is/was unknown and suits my style in wanting something stealthy but quick. I found the S13 vs S14 debates amusing, I'd gladly have either and I think that they are a different type of car for a different customer. Hey I'm 21 and would love an s14a! Unfortunately I may not be able to afford one nor the fully comp insurance, so could well end up getting an S13 since it cheaper to buy and insure and then moving onto one when I am in a position to afford it. I just hope that by the time I can get hold of one that they havent all been bought and thrashed :(

I'm not after getting raced by every BB cap wearing rude boy & his nova, I just want to enjoy myself and not get bothered by others(very steriotypical I know.. but there is quite a few around here, living so close to southend, I mean just go to festival lesure park of an evening in basildon and watch them wheelspin over the speed humps, 4 up, scaring pededstrians).

I'm for subtle and sensible modifications to improve the cars agility or acceleration, not underbody neon's and tacky wings that cheapen the car's image and shout, "I want to be an extra in F&F 2".... the american's call this 'RICE'. I just dont feel the need to make something appear as something its not.

Polls which discuss how fast members drive at (of which a majority was in excess of the legal limits, some worryingly so and into instaban territory! ) and 'road kill' type posts vs other road users are generally poor for the image of the club. When I first come across SXOC, my first impression was that it was for genuine enthusiasts who were mechanically minded. I learnt a lot about turbo engined cars from reading the more technical posts and developed a love for a car which I do not own, lol :D
Some day I'd like to contribute back to the community and go to meets/events, it would be dissapointing if this got ruined by a boyracer element.

I just hope that this trend dies down and goes back to the way I remember it near at the beginning of 2002 :)

I still can't decide if I want an S13 or an S14. Every time I see a nice example of one I change my mind

Although, I'm probably not really in the best position to say (most people have been here a lot longer and have invested a lot more in this community than me), but there's definitely been a noticable change in the board since I started posting back in January. Maybe it's something to do with the time of year; I'm certainly more stressed at the moment than I usually am, so maybe other people are too.

I’m sorry but some posts in this have really pissed me off.

From what I've read, (edited to say: some) people on both 'sides' of this arguement are saying 'if you don't share my views etc then you shouldn't be here'.

Get a life. If you want to be wholly around people that share you views/opinions etc then go round to a friends house.
A forum is just that, a forum. Unless this turns into a members only club with which you must subscribe to a particular ideology and doctrine, I think it is something that must just be put up with.

In addition there are several issues that have arisen to which I feel I must respond:

1/ Why the frankly irrelevant comments about music? WTF has that got to do with anything? Haughty opinions on how dance music is 'blah blah blah' this and 'blah blah blah' that, are really of no relevance; nor are they indicative of peoples 'Max Powerness', as some people seem to have suggested.
Why not keep such prejudices to yourself?

2/ Secondly, I too find little or no interest in some of the Max Power type stuff that has been posted sometimes. Also there does seem to be select people that are posting such stuff.

But what is the answer? Make the forum 'invitation only'?
Isn't that what the members section is for?

3/ I really think that some people should stop moaning about how they are forced to come into such limited contact with people with differing tastes and personality etc and learn to use the feckin' ignore button!

As has been said I've never used the ignore list as I've always thought that everybody can have a valid input to a discussion but looking at it now I could easily have 5+ people on there :(
It's not that some of these people have not got some good stuff to say it's just that it seems to be buried in a load of other stuff that gets on my tit$ so I'm leaning toward blocking the lot.

The members section is very under used, if there were a better balance in the number of sections between the public and the private forums that could be a way of getting more members (its only £15 a year) and trying to get the board back to where it was. I'd hate though, to deprive genuine owners but not paid up members of the kind of discussions/technical backup we have on here for the sake of a few people.

On the second point I'd agree if this was a chat room or a general forum but it is supposed to be the SXOC BB so I would expect that most people on here would share my views toward the cars and be mature enough to respect my point of view on other things. Theres always going to be a diverse membership which is what makes forums great but this is the SXOC BB so we should have a few things in common ;)

I'd hate all the threads to be a dry monologue and some of the banter is very funny :D but I do miss when the forum was a bit more serious than it is now.

I know I post some rubbish now and again as everyone does but I normally try to have some input to a thread if I have a bit of info or another point of view but I try to keep it on topic (don't manage it all the time tho  ) if not then I keep quiet and learn :)

Just my 2p's worth, Im off to work now :(

BBS's go through phases. At the moment, this one is going through a more 'Max Pants' one. Give it a few months though and people will be complaining the BBS is too serious and technical.

There's no perfect balance, there's no perfect answer - you just have to ride out the phases you don't like, and enjoy the ones you do.

Not really much else I can say here...:(

I agree with this quote - With some cars, it becomes absurd.

Round Wolverhampton way there is a distinctively dodgy looking yellow "Ferrari" F355 which looks like (and probably is) a body kitted Toyota MR2 - The wheels and the length of the car don't look quite right and it makes the driver look a complete muppet!
