View Full Version : Anyone know where I can get some spigot rings in a hurry? 72.1 -> 66.1

Got Buffy to put my R33 GTST brakes on, however it was then discovered that the 16" alloys I got to clear the new brakes have lost their spigot rings at some point between coming off Nene's old car, and being refurbished. This is a bit of a problem as I have to drive to Edinburgh tomorrow, so mail order is out.

Anyone got a set they can sell/lend me (ones for fitting Momo alloys to Nissan should do), or know anywhere that stocks them?

i thought they would only cause a problem if not fitted over a prolonged period of time:confused:

Fair enough I was more concerned about making the car unstable and ending up in a ditch somewhere.

My experience is, you wont notice at all

It does wobble a bit at speed, not sure if it's down to the wheels or something else, so need to eliminate that.

Edit, I guess if I jack it up and get someone to apply the brakes, then loosen and gradually tighten the wheels I should be able to get it pretty close to central?

If you have the right nuts for the wheels then they should self centre :)

Also the vibration is more than likely poorly balanced wheels after tyre fitting.

I have ran wheels with no spigots before and not noticed for over a year ! it must have come off while having tyres fitted and no one noticed ?

Well I'll see if I can torque them down evenly.

The wheels have a more dubious history than that. When they were on Nene's car, she found an unmarked hole on a pitch black road in the middle of London and bent one of them. They were then promptly replaced with some other wheels that were 2" bigger and a bit wider and stored in a shed for quite some time.

When I bought my Cefiro and decided on R33 brakes, I took them to Renowheel to have them made round again and to have Guishnu's crappy paint job removed (though to be fair, said paint job was doing pretty well at removing itself).

At the time I helped take these wheels off Nene's car I didn't know spigot rings existed, so I have no idea what happened to them, for all I know they might not have been fitted then.

Maybe Renowheel just didn't balance them very well? *shrug*

I've found a company in Dudley that claim to have loads of spigot rings in stock so I'll pop in to see them on my way to Scotland, I've also found a company in Bradford who might be able to help, but they want to take a set of 73.1mm ones and grind off 1mm, which I'm not terribly confident about.

I'm near Blackwood, but don't mind making a bit of a trek to get them.

Wheels are 72.1, hubs are 66.1

Thanks for having a look, will give me one less thing to worry about on the new car if you do have some.

I'll bring the whole car, jack, and wheelbrace ;) it drives ok so long as you don't go too fast.

The 2 plastic ones have seen the angry side of a flat head screw driver when i removed them last lol but they are servicable.

Well I'd just like to say a big thanks to Woody  exactly the size I needed, even hung around while I fitted them (it's a lot warmer in Cardiff ;) ) and a quick test on the way home would imply that it's cured the wobble I was experiencing, so that's one less thing to worry about on the Scotland trip tomorrow.

It was Woody's birthday o_O. I had no idea.

Belated happy birthday.

(Posting this from a travel inn in Edinburgh, didn't put the car in a ditch or anything, it's driving fine so the rings must've done the trick)
