DvD drive not working hmmmmm

my drive has stopped working i have not used it much over the 3 years as a dvd player just as a drive but not much as that either use my burner to read cds :) it reads cds fine but with dvds now it just hangs the pc for a bit and then the disk spins a bit then when i click on drive E it says its not acesable incurrect funtion (spelling) :eek:

could this be the problem

it seems as neither has a device name

Has it read DVDs before? It could be a dirty lens, although I've never had that happen (in 3 years or so).

i dont think it is a software problem it could just be dirty like you suggested is it a different lazer that reads the cds to the dvd's ?

I'm not sure, I don't think so. MY first DVD drive wouldn't read dvds full stop, it'd only see CDs so we had to flash it (no not that way :rolleyes: ) and it worked. Until it broke :o

just rebuilt it after taking it apart and cleaning it took my power fan and cpu fan apart at the same time
feck me !!!

clean your power fans out often !! :eek:

If it has previously worked with dvds don't flash it. Search around on google and see if anyone else has had problems with it. (press windowskey+break, then device manager, cd-rom drives to get the model number).
