View Full Version : GTR rear brake conversion on a 180sx – Handbrake cable help!
I have a late 180sx so it unfortunately has the :ghey: s14 handbrake setup on it.
After doing a bit of research (badly it would seem) I bought a set of brakes from a R32GTR with handbrake cables from a R33.
When we tried to fit them, there is no way the handbrake cables are correct
On the ones supplied the inner is too short, and the outer is too long, with none of the mounting points matching up.
The pic below shows the difference. The right hand cable mounted to the back plate is the one I was supplied…. and the other one, is the one which came off my car

Can anyone clarify what I have to sort to make them work? The car is currently stuck on someones ramp, and unless I find the answer by midday, the car is going to have to go back to standard, and I will have to pay again once I have sourced what I need.
HELP!! :)
Thanks :sxoc:

When I did this on the S14, I got the handbrake cable to the middle of the car, where it joins to the old handbrake mechanism.
Thats what that section is mate

Thats an awesome thread mate. Jezz sent it to me before I even got the bits
I am concerned the 180sx floorpan may be different or something

It doesn't matter really though, just secure the cables up with zip ties or jubilee clips, so it's secure, and it'll be fine.
On the section closest to the middle the inner is way to short, so you cant mount it in a way that you would achieve any leverage.
Trust me, if it was possible to get it to work, we would have!
Any reason original s13 cables wouldnt be suitable (Clutching at straws here)

No reason at all, if they're long enough, they're ideal :) They're just a cable pulling a mechanism, doesn't matter where they're from as long as they pull AFAIK!

They wont work mate...if you are that confident they will come and stay, sort my brakes, and go look at your car. I will pay your fuel and entertain you for the night :ghey: :D

Come on, how hard can it be? :D :wack: Loads of people do this without making a fuss, you must be doing it wrong :p
R33 cables are for the 14 aren't they?
I may be missing soemthing, but surely as it's an S13 chassis, S13 cables for the S13 handbrake mech should bolt straight on?
I think it is and i think i have been a tit.
The original ones on my car are not long enough, because they are for the ss14 style mechanism.
A few hours ago (with confirmation from Polo on DW) I put up a wanted thread for some s13 cables
A big thumbs down for my stupidity tho :p

:wack: was pretty sure you needed S13 cables on the 180!
But didnt they come with drums as standard like the 13s?
