Whats the best way to splice snippets from two videos onto one tape.

Aint got a clue.

The videos have yet to be made by the way. Would digital be the way to go?

Digital for sure.

I've made a "pop vid" on Hi-8 before and it's a lot of fannying around compared to digital, even with timecoding. You have to work out "pre-roll" times and stuff to get the sync right and even then it can take a few goes before it's bang on. Not a problem if you don't have any lip-sync issues, but it drove me mental.

If you just want to drop a bit of footage onto (or into) another tape, then you just need a deck with insert edit capabilities. Sound is a problem though, unless you use PCM (which is recorded diagonally along with the picture rather than on a seperate linear track like most domestic vids). If you want to do a proper job, you'll need a proper edit deck with flying erase heads and stuff.

Yep, digital is a piece of piss in comparison....:)
