:wave:Hi all my names Ian from Kingswood in Bristol,I've posted on here with my Datsun 100A & today I put a deposit down on this:

These are currently the advert pics but am picking it up on saturday & will post a few more. It's an 1800 auto,M reg with a few electrical & engine probs. The electrical are faulty lights & the ABS light on the dash & it won't start when hot,I've got a few ideas to the engine issue, but other than the water pump leaking she's a beaut. No rust on strut tops or in the boot floor, all sills & ends are solid but bootlid is a bit scabby.
Will be after lots of advise & tips if your all willing to help & I'd really appreciate someone giving it a thorough going over when I get it to it's resting place on saturday.
My first plan is to convert to manual so if anyone knows how it's done I'd really appreciate all your advise.

In fact that looks pretty similar to a 13 I saw at the Black Castle Sainsburys car park last week. Only I thought it had black wheels on it.

the starting issue when its hot could be the hot start solenoid, look up in the search for bypassing it

When I test drove the car all seem fine with the car even after a 30 min drive.I turned it off & left it 2 mins & it started, turned it off left it 10 mins & it started. She told me it was intermittant which is a pain. She told me that when you try to start the car it's almost like there's no current to the starter solenoid as it doesn't even click but lights on dash, sometimes you have to wait 1/2 hour & cross your fingers!
I have been told it may be something to do with the safety interlock for the autobox,or as the water pump is leaking there is a sensor/plug on the thermostat housing that won't allow the engine to start if it thinks it's too hot.
Does any of this sound feasable?
Am insured on the beauty as off midnight friday,so roll on saturday.

Alex,I'll be putting the car at my brother's house on the corner of your road where the Datsun was.If you could have a quick look over it that would be sweet as!!
Definitely going to manual conv. it,why you got the bits I need:D:D
The turbo/manifold gasket needs replacing so if you know how it's done........Any advise is helpful advise.
Hope to see you saturday. If I get the gasket done I'll drive it to the SX meet.

Bring it to the meet, we'll all have a poke around!

Don't know what the fuel pumps like in the 13. On the 14 it's kind of manditory to replace it. Standard ones are destined to fail.

When mine went I can remember having a few hot start issues before it finally packed in and wouldn't start hot or cold. Might have been coincidental, as the problem didn't comletely go away until I replcaed the FPR too.

But anyway, standard fuel pumps are bad. Just for the record.

yeah sure i can have alittle poke round :) but as i said before im more of an IT technician then a mechanic. where will the 200 be parked?

turbo/manifold gaskets aint a fun job at all from what i understand; so id do the same as many people and point you in the loving direction of iceblade. though he asked me to WD40 the manifold/turbo bolts a week in advanced cause they WILL snap and that leads to so so many more problems. joe(iceblade) is very well priced and a top bloke for helping us lot out

But if the 200 isnt your daily driver like mine you wouldnt be so rushed to get things done at weekends and not worry about if something goes wrong and takes long then expected.

P.S. if im missing my clutch pedal in the near future im coming after you!!!

Will defo bring it to the meet, won't sound to good though, blown gasket & a huge twin backbox make for noise.
What aftermarket fuel pump do most recommend as a may put that on my shopping list.
What's an FPR????:o:o

Alex, out your front door turn left about 100 metres turn right, about 4th house down on left near the white supra,it'll be there about 12 ish saturday.
If I leave your clutch pedal can I take all the other bits!!!!!
As for plans,I kind of wanted to strip it out with buckets & all the stuff but as I'm probarbly never going to track it,I may just put a tidy cloth interior in & make it comfy.
Q.Anybody want a slightly tatty black leather interior for a tidy cloth??

Fuel Pressure Regulator. That and the fuel pump cost around 100 quid each. There's little point replacing the fpr at this stage, just the fuel pump cos it's worth doing anyway.

Any uprated fuel pump will do, there pretty much all the same. It just needs to be able to pump a decent amount. (255lph)

Also gave me a few pointers of what to look out for on here to buy.My first plan is to swap exhaust then hopefully get the turbo gaskets sorted out before the meet on saturday.I'm gonna strip out the interior tomorrow aswel.

Are the seats worth anything?otherwise I'm just going to bin them.Back seat is really tidy.
Am keeping my eyes open for a set of springs on the forsale thread so that's in hand:)
Have a list of other things I need to do before then.Am hoping to get in contact with a chap to do my turbo gaskets before saturday.

Get shocks to go with those lowering springs or you'll pop em and be bouncing around like rubble7 was.

Right I've been quite busy on the car this week.
I strippedout all the interior including dash to remove all the old defunked alarm system & hands free kit.I wish I'd taken a pic of how much wiring I'd took out.Cleaned the carpets & fitted standard seats for now.Clocks are still out as I'm waiting my white dials.Cleaned up the door cards & got the elecy windows working.
Also removed spoiler & wiper & covered in tin tape for now.
With a little help & advise from iceblade I removed the carbon cannister, fan shroud & bypassed the hot start valve & fitted a new K&N kit from ebay.
Plans are to do waterpump & get Joe to do turbo gaskets next week.
Unfortunately I'm working saturday so will miss the meet but I will meet you all soon.

Am looking at removing diff oilcooler tomorrow,I've done a search on the forum & it seems easy enough but what I want to do is remove wiring too. This will mean I wont have a warning light on the dash when it reaches 130 deg but will this be an issue. There are 2 plugs on the back of the diff what is the other for if 1 is for the warnig light?

Hi again mate, just collecting a few bits as I go,trying to keep it on a monthly budget so as not to get nagged by the other 1/2.
Just received my white dials from lockwood :)but still waiting for my steering wheel:mad:
Other than that I'm stripping out loom wiring, tidying up my expansion bottle & washer bottle as there both knackered, will be taking a trip to some scrappies to measure a few bottles me thinks & looking at relocating battery.

hellfire
18-03-2009, 22:00
washer bottle wise you can get a ''kit car'' washer bag. it holds only about a liter bus is small and you can put it anywhere in your bay. got mine for about £20 off E-bay

ianlea73
21-03-2009, 17:38
Ordered a universal washer bottle from ebay, gonna mount in the boot.£17 incl. postage.
Expansion bottle wise I'm gonna use an old micra one.
Steering wheel arrived & fitted, will take pics tomorrow.
After seeing a fellow SXOC members car yesterday when I picked up a spare rear subframe I've decided to go all out stripped naked road racer.I love that bare minimum load look!!!
Going for battery behind seat so have ordered battery cable, cut out switch & isolator.I've also got + & - quick release battery terminals.
Does anyone know a company in Bristol that does 'T' pieces for the brake lines.I want to remove the ABS control unit, module & all wiring too.I was told but I can't remember. Can anyone confirm the size I want is M10 x 1.

Done quite a lot to the car lately but hardly anything visual.I've been sourcing parts from local SX ers & tidying the car.
I removed dash again & removed all the sound proofing from bulkhead & all the deadening from the floor.Took about 2 days using hammer, chisel drill with wire wheel attachment & white spirits to finish off.I then primered ready for paint.

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l146/ianlea73/200sx/Picture140.jpg
I then fitted my lowering springs but do to how much weight I've taken out the car including great clumps of loom, rear wiper, diff oil cooler,Abs module & wiring etc,the car almost sits back at standard ride height.
Before with complete interior.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l146/ianlea73/200sx/Picture151.jpg
After strip down & lowered suspension.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l146/ianlea73/200sx/Picture141.jpg
I want to remove my heater & put in something smaller just to clear front screen anybody got any bright ideas.Has anyone got an old mini heater box I could size up?

Next job after painting floor is to mount battery behind drivers seat with my new universal battery tray, then wire through to my start button & kill switch that I'm going to mount in the old stereo hole.
Big job is still to do turbo gaskets...................& manual conversion.

ianlea73
20-04-2009, 15:33
Had a busy & constructive day on the motor, managed to get the turbo off & find where it's been blowing from:Where the turbo bolts to the manifold & is held secure with lock tabs it seems that the whole thing has come loose even though the tabs are still secure.

i took my heater out without putting anything else in to replace it - proved somewhat problematic when its heavy rain and all the windows are steaming up :annoyed:

anyway, think i'll either have a kit car heater, e.g.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Light-Weight-Heater-unit-1-2kg-ideal-4-kit-car_W0QQitemZ200313666533QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item200313666533&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318

or just a high capacity fan (which i can't seem to find an example of), will only blow cold air but should do the job

12-05-2009, 15:08
Had another free day so went & did a bit!!!!!:)
Firstly collected dash from Craig in Whitchurch then bought some rubber mounts for an amp in maplins.
So first I finished tidying loom, refitted brace & dash.

Then seats.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l146/ianlea73/200sx/Picture025.jpg
Then mounted battery tray behind passenger seat with amp mounts.
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l146/ianlea73/200sx/Picture028.jpg
I also bought a squash racket grip & wrapped it round H/brake lever.
Interior is basically done, next time I'll clear & clean it out & take some pics.
