Complete noob at this turbo malarkey, currently have a stage 2 s14a, running a tired old t28, was thinking to get a t28r as its a ball bearing turbo, but then there is the RS. What is the difference between the turbos, and if Im looking for only about 300hp which would I be better off with price v performance and reliability?

Hi,
the GT28R is good for about 300 bhp max, the GT28RS is good for about 330 - 340 bhp. Both turbos are extremly reliable (if looked after correctly) if you are a fully paid member price for a GT28R is £531 + vat inc actuator. The GT28RS is £786.60 + vat inc actuator, the carriage would be £13.00 + VAT on both turbos.

Sorry but what is the difference between the turbos? Just the BHP rating? or anything else?

Hi
The GT28RS has a larger compressor wheel and turbine wheel shaft assembly.

Is this true of the 0.64 version?
Thanks (and sorry for the hijack)

Hi,
Yes the 0.64 should manage 330-340 and the 0.82 may manage 340-350 but really there is not a lot of difference between them when fitted to a SR20DET or CA18DET.
Mark
So a GT28R can be modified to become a RS? How much would that cost if possible? (Since I have an GT28R already).

Thanks for your time Mark :)

Hi,
You would need to fit a larger comp wheel and re-profile the comp housing to suit and fit a larger turbine wheel and turbine housing (or re -profile the existing housing). therefore its not a financially viable option.
p.s i missed some info on one of my previous posts, sorry guys!
Mark
Thought it might be a mix and max situation, oh well. Thanks Mark
