Today marked the start of Project Oni Kudaki 2.0 :D:D
I have been planning this project ever since I sold off all the parts from the previous 1UZFE S14 project and purchased a 2004 Mazda RX8 import, a great looking and handling car, just underpowered.
There have been a few turbo`d and supercharged 8`s appearing now but I didn`t want to go down that route, I wanted something with a bit more power:whip:
So today I went down to RE:Worx and picked up the main component for my project

Yep I am putting a triple rotor 20b in the 8:D:D
This project will move along slowly as I still need to get my garage/workshop built but I will get there!:whip:
The plan is to run it with a GT42RS turbo and make around 400@the wheels to begin with as there are differing opinions as how much power the 8`s box can handle but 400 seems to be ok.
A huge thanks to Geoff at RE:Worx for doing me a good deal on the engine, top bloke:thumbs: It`s actually the one out of thier RX8 drag car that ran a 9.1 quarter last year:Plug:

lol its a bridge port dude  hes gonna be running E85 and no intercooler as well. gonna make 400hp on motor alone  they have no idea what it will go with the turbo but they are aiming for 700 to start with

That looks like a peripheral port to me:confused:
inlets welded into the rotor housings?
definitely interested in updates on that machine:thumbs:

One very handy thing about putting this engine in is that I will only have to pass pre cat emissions as it is from a 91 car:thumbs:

what the FD?
sure, you would need to buy 2 new tires though and if you break the engine you can pay for a rebuild:wack:

mini update:
I got the 20b in to the garage and on to the engine stand and had a poke around it to see what bits I need for it, it has an FD front cover on it so all the pulleys, crank angle sensors and waterpump need to be FD items which makes life a bit easier as 20b bits are hard to get hold of ( less than 4000 20b`s were ever made:eek:)
So currently I am trying to source all the bits I need for the conversion, I already have a twin plate carbon clutch that came with the engine, the main issue at the moment is an ecu to run in, I have a lead on a microtech cheapy cheap but need to wait for it to be available, it will eventualy run a Solaris ecu but at the moment there is no rotary support.
I have a 4 stage plan worked out:

Stage 1 : get the engine in and running n/a (should make about the same power as the rensis but with more torque:thumbs:)

Stage 2: Get the RX8 ECU happy again,ABS, stability control etc working

Stage 3: TURBO!!!! :D GT42rs limiting to 400 bhp ish to try to save the stock drivetrain from being destroyed:wack:

Stage 4: Upgrade the drivetrain and up the boost:whip: I am hoping for around 500bhp @ the wheels

Update

I recieved a few parts today, firstly a pair of n/a 13b headers so I can fab up a temporary n/a exhaust

http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=60231&stc=1&d=1235590552

also an FD aircon/power steering bracket

http://www.sxoc.co.uk/vbb/attachment.php?attachmentid=60232&stc=1&d=1235590714

and a renesis excentric shaft postition sensor trigger wheel

you gotta love how much of the rotary parts are interchangable:D:D

How the ****etybollocks did I miss this?!?! Reason for this section number 1

Awesome stuff dude.

I've been readin up about the '8 boxes quite a lot and they seem to hold up well - IIRC Chris Impey's running one I think, and that seems to cope with a 9s T51r KAI car :D

What management are you going for? And what ignition? Standard 20b inlets? So many questions, most prominent being: Can I have it please? ta.

Ninja
12-04-2009, 20:55
Management wise, I`m hoping to use Solaris but we need to get the split ignition sorted, the engine is standard but strong(ran a 9.1 quarter in RE:Worx`s drag car) not sure on ignition yet either, depends on what ecu I use really.
Finally got boost control sorted on my FD today so it`s now running just over a bar of boost with a TO4R and is pretty rapid:thumbs:

Dude,

Please,

For the love of God finish this one, it looks bloody awesome :notworthy

Can't wait to see the finished result (although I'll probably be driving to the Chessie meet in my hover car by the time it's finished :p )

Project currently on hold as my FD chipped an apex seal and I need to get that sorted first:(
But some good news is that Solaris can now support rotaries so that`s the ECU sorted:thumbs:

The only reason its on hold is because I've bet you £50 and Debs that you won't get the FD back up and running by the end of the year:p

I paid £3k for mine but it is a good strong engine that has been rebuilt and came with a carbon twin plate clutch:thumbs:
Give Tim at RX motors a call I know they usually have a couple of 20b`s knocking about:thumbs:

pain in the ass to fit in a FD, that`s why mine is going in the 8, more bonnet clearance:thumbs:

Yeah, I was looking at Matt's in WGT the other month. A lot better when used with the RX8 box though - shorter box makes up for longer engine it seems :)
