it'll be prohibitively expensive at the moment to import an s15, exchange rates have literally exploded the import prices for the time being, what sort of spec are you after? there are a few available for sale at the moment on here and the s15oc, why dont you take a look at those first as they are already here and bound to be cheaper. matt s has a lovely looking spec r for sale with a really good engine setup with 2871r turbo, would cost bundles to apply that setup to your own s15.......

yes its pewter silver with white wheels. trust me mate, even though spec r prices are still quite strong, there are loads about for 10k now. id probably expect a standard or lightly modified one for that money but i definitely would say you're better off looking at owners club cars that have been imported already to save a lot of money and time.

Well if it's any help, the company I'm using (http://algysautos.com/) are based in Bristol, they're not strictly an importer but for a fixed fee of £350 they arrange everything with a few other companies, including the Japanese sellers, Barratt Shipping and Hallen Import Specialists (also in Bristol). The latter two will send you their parts of the total cost separately, regarding buying the car you pay then and they convert it to yen and pay the Japanese seller (they'll also help with finding the cars in the first place, though in my case I already had the car I wanted lined up)

Total cost so far:

Algy's Autos:
£350 - their fee
£2000 - car (Y250,000 FOB price)

Barratt Shipping:
£682.91 - freight (container shared with 2 other customers cars)
£200.00 - landing
£158.29 - Duty
£316.58 - VAT

Still to come is the work at Hallen Imports which will most likely be foglight, service, cambelt and MOT. I then get a little pack in the post and get to register it myself which I understand is 50 quid plus road tax.

Actually finding the car, I found it on tradecarview.com who only deal with selling to importers, not individuals (and I only found out about that site because I put the chassis code "LNA31" into Google and that was one of the results). Interestingly I later found the same car on japaneseusedcars.com but they were quoting an FOB price of Y470,000. Also most of the shipping costs I was being quoted were in the region of £1300 so even with their £350 fee they have saved me money, as they claimed they would do when I spoke to them. They still went and looked for a few alternate cars but the LNA31 Ceffy is quite rare now (according to a Japanese guy on the UK Legacy forums, there were only 3 for sale in the entirety of Japan at the time) so ended up going with the one I'd originally found. They were quite happy to go along with this even though the car was located in Hokkaido!

I'm not recommending the company just yet as I've not taken delivery of the car yet but so far I am happy with the service I've received. Have a read of the "Import Scheme" section of their site for more details, the main site deals with the likes of Figaros and Bongos etc. as these are the most popular imports.

ive uesed barrat shipping, very good comany, let you know where the boat is at any time and keep in contact, one of their staff even added me on msn to update me. so i give them a massive thumbs up.

it only tool 6 weeks for the boat to arrive and it cleared customs in 5 hours!!! usually takes up to 48hrs.

barret prices have gone up since 2 years ago tho lol.

The boats are taking a bit longer these days, most shipping companies are travelling slower in response to both rising fuel prices and less stuff being shipped.
In my case the car left the port of Yokohama on December 3rd and arrived in Italy on January 6th, unfortunately there wern't any other boats available to do the last leg to England until Februrary 12th they told me, but now the car is apparently here as of a day or two ago.

Oh, did your car get stuck in Italy for nearly a month (and get collected today) too then?

Apparently HMRC "forgot" to tell Barrat Shipping that the car(s) had cleared customs so it was just my phoning them up to ask about the C&E386 form that got them to open the bloody container!
