Relocating Heater Controls

Was looking at the possibility of moving my heater controls to the lower DIN pocket, but after a bit of playing around it seems the temperature control cable is nowhere near long enough. Would probably need to be a good 5 inches longer. Was wondering has anyone else actually done this, and any suggestions for a proper way of lengthening the control cable before I start bodging?

you can move it to above , thats what i will do once got time, i guy here did it as well, looks nice :) where the heater vents was
