View Full Version : IT experts, help needed please
For the past couple of days the below message box keeps appearing periodically on my laptop when I'm on the net. It's not related to any program I have downloaded and I can find no trace of it anywhere.
The barsteward is that if it pops up whilst I'm away from the laptop (ie it isn't deleted fairly quickly) everything locks up.
How the hell do I get rid of it?
Edited cos I forgot to post the bloody picture :rolleyes: http://www.mypix.fsnet.co.uk/misc/bloodyannoying.jpg

You can send them yourself using the 'Netsend' command at a command prompt. Wreaks havock on a college network ;) :D

Get a firewall, that will stop those popups. (mine does)

These messages are an exploit in the windows messenger service that some spammers now use. The messenger service was primarily designed to let system administrators contact users of there network. The messages can do your machine no harm but as you are aware extremely annoyiong. Read below on how to stop these messages.
How to set up your system not to receive windows messenger/netbios messages
Windows 2000
Click Start->Settings -> Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services
Scroll down and highlight "Messenger"
Right-click the highlighted line and choose Properties.
Click the STOP button.
Select Disable or Manual in the Startup Type scroll bar
Click OK
Response from my server- It worked for me!
