View Full Version : Honda Accord TV Ad
What to you all think of the new Accord Tv ad? I just got my free DVD (Thanks Mr Honda:) )and all of it was actually filmed it took eight months and 606:eek: takes to make!!!:)
free dvd?
ooooooooooo can we get one?
I've still not seen the whole thing:mad:
Either phone Honda customer relations or Honda marketing cant remember either number so it might be a directory enquiries jobbie:)
okay cool, I'll try phoning them.
cheers :)
1stview WOW
2nmd view pretty cool
3rd view: wonder whats on BBC1?
The actual car itself is pretty nice looking IMO. I know they actually did it, but it really does look fake. Its got a toy story look about it, I recon anyway. Seems too smooth?
Dunc.
Yeah, previous posts insisted it was CGI. I've watched it many times and it's not precise enough for CGI and you wouldn't get things like rollback on the weighted tyres.

You wouldnt believe how realistic it can be. We did a press launch for the Jaguar X-type a while back - loads of journos in a room, given pictures, shown video of the car, walkthroughs, driving through puddles, all your usual car advertising type stuff.
Except the car hadnt been made yet - it was all done from technical data and some damn good animators. No-one twigged at all. You can make CG as good as real life, no problem. :)

I have to say that I disagree with the comment about rollback. If you can get a tyre to roll forwards, then you can program in some rollback. I'm still convinced it is CGI - especially the bit where the exhaust swings around, then tailpipe just looks wrong somehow. And also, what are the speakers bouncing up and down into/on?
Fair enough. But why would Honda got to so much trouble to say how long it took to make the ad when it would make no odds if they said it was CGI?
Honda have said it's not CGI. works for me.

Because it sounds better. Any old fool can do an ad in CGI (in theory anyway) but to do something with that amount of precision...
This DVD?

And HOW much PR damage would it do if they were discovered to be lying?
If it's not cgi, then I'm buying a Honda!
Any car maker that can defy Newtonian physics has got my vote!
Seriously, there's a bit where tyres are 'knocked' uphill that defies gravity.
What the 'weighted tyres' bit?
Thanks for the link Yak, ordered me that :D

True.
Hopwever, there are a number of things that could easily get them out of it. Like shooting all the componants seperately then CGI stitching them together, which I think gets my vote.
Hell, if the Matrix looked that good, its easy to do a car ad...
Time will tell, I 'spose. Always does. :)
Hint to special effects team: Tidy up the agent jumping on the car bonnet, it's quite a fake looking effect.

Its definately not CGI it shows you on the dvd how it was all shot and it tells you all the parts of the car that were used the wheels were actually weighted using nuts and bolts from the car if you look closely the first wheel actually falls over after its hit the second one the exhaust would look strange cos its a rolling oval :)
